WAFL Round 16 Preview

THE WAFL's longest winning and losing streaks go on the line in Round 16 of the 2014 WAFL season with East Perth and East Fremantle looking to keep winning, and Perth and South Fremantle out to end their respective losing streaks. There are four matches all at 2.05pm on Saturday afternoon with East Perth playing East Fremantle at Leederville's Medibank Stadium, Peel Thunder hosting Claremont at Mandurah's Bendigo Bank Stadium, Perth taking on South Fremantle at Lathlain Park and West Perth playing Subiaco at Joondalup HBF's Arena. Demons and Bulldogs to clash for Cable-Michael Cup

Perth and South Fremantle will play for the Cable-Michael Cup at Lathlain Park in Round 16 of the WAFL this Saturday. WAAFL to launch Red Arm Band round

2014 Landmark Country Football Championships

THE best country footballers from around the State will descend on Perth for the 2014 Landmark Country Football Championships from July 10-12. The Landmark Championships, which are celebrating their 50th year in 2014,  will be played at WAFL grounds over three days and include three senior divisions and a Colts competition. NAIDOC Round WAFL Wrap Up

THE WAFL celebrated the league's Indigenous roots, heritage and current prosperity on Saturday afternoon with all eight clubs wearing specially designed jumpers for the occasion with Claremont, East Fremantle, East Perth and Swan Districts recording victories. The results on Saturday afternoon saw Claremont beat South Fremantle 12.13 (85) to 9.9 (63) at the Claremont Showground, East Fremantle down Perth 14.18 (102) to 14.8 (92) at East Fremantle Oval, East Perth thrash Peel Thunder 16.13 (109) to 6.10 (46) at Leederville's Medibank Stadium and Swan Districts down West Perth 16.9 (105) to 11.10 (76) at Joondalup's HBF Arena. At the end of Round 15, East Perth (11-2) sits on top of the WAFL ladder just percentage ahead of Swan Districts (11-3) with Subiaco (9-4) and East Fremantle (9-4) making up the top four positions. THE WAFL celebrated NAIDOC Round on Saturday afternoon with all eight participating clubs wearing specially designed jumpers with Swan Districts, Claremont, East Fremantle and East Perth recording victories. NAIDOC Jumpers 2014 The wins for the Swans, Tigers, Sharks and Royals saw the top-ranked teams each prevail in their match ups on Saturday afternoon but they didn’t all have it their own way. IT IS NAIDOC Round in the WAFL this weekend as the league celebrates its rich Indigenous culture with four matches on Saturday afternoon highlighted by West Perth and Swan Districts continuing their budding rivalry. West Perth hosts Swan Districts at Joondalup's HBF Arena on Saturday afternoon with the other three matches pitting Claremont against South Fremantle at the Claremont Showground, East Fremantle hosting Perth at East Fremantle Oval and East Perth tackling Peel Thunder at Leederville's Medibank Stadium. The West Australian Football League, in partnership with the Department of Aboriginal Affairs, will celebrate the significance of Aboriginal players when WAFL NAIDOC Round is held this Saturday for the eighth consecutive year. State 18s finish with a win

THE WAFL State 18s finished the NAB AFL National 18s Championships with a thrilling two-point win over Victoria Country on Wednesday, July 2 with a late Clem Smith goal sealing victory. Vic Country looked far too strong early in the game and broke out to a 31-point lead midway through the second term. But WA responded to storm home, winning 9.13 (67) to 10.5 (65) at Etihad Stadium, recording WA's first State 18s win at the ground in six years. Read More ...


Hasleby to stand down from Bulldogs at season's end

THE South Fremantle Football Club would like to announce that the club's senior coach Paul Hasleby has informed the board that he is not seeking a contract renewal beyond the end of the 2014 WAFL season. Hasleby's time in charge of South Fremantle will come to an end at the conclusion of the 2014 season after he took over at the helm in 2012 on the back on an outstanding AFL playing career with the Fremantle Dockers, and then a season with South Fremantle in the WAFL. Hasleby tonight informed the entire club of his decision to not seek a new contract at the end of this his third season in charge as he addressed the board members, staff and players. Rollercoaster ride now sees Bairstow reach 100 games

SOUTH Fremantle has added motivation to return to the winner's list this Saturday when Toby Bairstow's rollercoaster WAFL journey reaches a high point as he plays his 100th match with the Bulldogs to book his name on the No. 4 locker at Fremantle Oval. It hasn’t always been a smooth ride to 100 games for the 25-year-old since he graduated through the colts and reserves at South Fremantle after coming up from Bunbury to go and make his league debut in Round 6, 2008. He played 16 games in the premiership year of 2009 including kicking in the winning goal in an incredible Anzac Day derby against East Fremantle and playing well in the second semi-final win over Subiaco, but he and Hayden North made way for Jeff Farmer and Peter Bell in the grand final.
