Rollercoaster ride now sees Bairstow reach 100 games

Thursday, July 3, 2014 - 5:46 PM - by Chris Pike
SOUTH Fremantle has added motivation to return to the winner's list this Saturday when Toby Bairstow's rollercoaster WAFL journey reaches a high point as he plays his 100th match with the Bulldogs to book his name on the No. 4 locker at Fremantle Oval. It hasn’t always been a smooth ride to 100 games for the 25-year-old since he graduated through the colts and reserves at South Fremantle after coming up from Bunbury to go and make his league debut in Round 6, 2008. He played 16 games in the premiership year of 2009 including kicking in the winning goal in an incredible Anzac Day derby against East Fremantle and playing well in the second semi-final win over Subiaco, but he and Hayden North made way for Jeff Farmer and Peter Bell in the grand final. Royals in career-best form leading the charge

Thursday, July 3, 2014 - 5:30 PM - by Chris Pike
EAST Perth sits on top of the WAFL ladder and while from the outside much of the focus is heaped on the West Coast-listed players, the growth of players like Freddie Clutterbuck, Steven Payne, Kyle Anderson and Nathan Blee has been instrumental in the Royals' outstanding form. Even though West Coast's Callum Sinclair, Scott Lycett, Blayne Wilson, Simon Tunbridge, Dom Sheed and Brant Colledge, in particular, have played some strong football in 2014, it is East Perth's WAFL-listed players who are standing up to make the difference. Co-captains Craig Wulff and Brendan Lee have been outstanding when fit, and big men Josh Smith and Paul Johnson provide a strong presence but it is the next group of players who have moved themselves into the upper echelon of stars in the competition. Peel focusing on much more than late-arriving players

Thursday, July 3, 2014 - 12:41 AM - by Chris Pike
PEEL Thunder coach Cam Shepherd has turned his focus to improving his team's tackling pressure and kicking in front of goal following yet another competitive but losing effort against Subiaco on Saturday. The focus on Peel since that loss on Saturday has been centred on the fact that Fremantle pair Kepler Bradley and Tom Sheridan didn’t appear until the 20-minute of the second quarter, but that had no influence on the final result. Peel had done well in the opening 50 minutes without the Dockers pair only trailing by a goal when Bradley took up his position at full-back and Sheridan joined the midfield. Read More ...
