Round 14 WAFL Wrap Up

CLAREMONT scored an upset win, Subiaco recorded an important win and West Perth kept its 2014 season alive with all three recording WAFL victories in Round 14. The round began with two matches on Saturday afternoon with Claremont beating Swan Districts 15.7 (97) to 11.5 (71) at Bassendean's Steel Blue Oval and Subiaco defeating Peel Thunder 11.18 (84) to 7.16 (58) at Leederville's Medibank Stadium. The round then concluded on Sunday with West Perth scoring an important, emphatic and comfortable 19.19 (133) to 10.11 (71) victory at Fremantle Oval. Read More ...


Royals fall short of joining Falcons in Foxtel Cup decider

EAST Perth has fallen short of joining West Perth in the Foxtel Cup grand final for 2014 with the VFL's Williamstown running out 24-point winners at Patersons Stadium on Tuesday night. West Perth had already qualified for the Tuesday July 22 decider by beating Tasmania's Western Storm by 74 points last Tuesday night giving East Perth the chance to set up another Perth derby, another grand final rematch and an all-WAFL Foxtel Cup grand final. East Perth did open up a 16-point advantage early in the second quarter when Josh Hill kicked his second of three goals for the night, but Williamstown kicked the last three goals of the second quarter to lead by two points at half-time. Females showcase skills in Western Derby curtain raiser

WA's female football talent was showcased at the Western Derby on Saturday, June 28 when an all female curtain raiser was played between players from the new WAFC Female Talent Academy (16-18 years) and the State 16 Schoolgirls. WAFC Female High Performance Manager Alison Moore thanked the Fremantle Football Club for supporting the intiative as the home team and providing Fremantle jumpers  for the best players on either side at the conclusion of the game. WAFL State 16s named for Nationals

Western Australia’s State 16s squads have been finalised for the 2014 NAB AFL National 16s Championships on the Gold Coast,  from July 5-12. The Division 1 side will be led by experienced development coach John Hancock, who was the State 16s Head Coach last year and an Assistant Coach for the State 16s in 2010 and 2011 and State 18s in 2012. East Perth v Williamstown Foxtel Cup Preview

EAST Perth has the chance this Tuesday night to exact some revenge for its last Foxtel Cup appearance and to set up an-all WAFL grand final when it takes on the VFL's Williamstown at Patersons Stadium. The game will take place on Tuesday night from 6.35pm with entry free into Patersons Stadium with the gates open from 6pm and the game being broadcast live on Fox Footy nationally. With West Perth already having qualified for the Tuesday July 22 Foxtel Cup grand final by beating the Western Storm by 74 points last Tuesday night, East Perth can now join the Falcons in the decider by beating Williamstown this time around. Round 14 Sunday WAFL Results

ROUND 14 of the WAFL concluded on Sunday afternoon with West Perth running out convincing 62-point winners over South Fremantle to keep its finals hopes alive. The game started with no defensive pressure from either side in a six-goal apiece first quarter, but West Perth dominated from that point on kicking 13 goals to four for the rest of the day at Fremantle Oval to end up winning 19.19 (133) to 10.11 (71). SWAN Districts has been unable to pull off its second stunning comeback in a week with Claremont's improved form resulting in its fourth win of the season while Subiaco also defeated Peel to open Round 14 of the WAFL on Saturday afternoon. There were just the two matches taking place on Saturday with East Fremantle, East Perth and Perth having the bye and then South Fremantle to host West Perth on Sunday at Fremantle Oval. Simpson credits Davis, Riggio, Harding for Swans' resurgence

JUSTIN Simpson has stepped up as a leader in the back-line for Swan Districts this season, but credits the emergence of Ryan Davis and Matt Riggio, and the work of coach Greg Harding as the driving forces behind Swan Districts' stunning form so far in 2014. Much of the focus on Swan Districts coming into the season was surrounding the departure of senior players Wayde Twomey, Brett Robinson, Kyle Hams, Shaun Hildebrandt and Tom Roach, but the result has been the remaining players pulling together and playing with huge passion and spirit. That now sees Swans sit just percentage off top spot with 10 wins from 12 matches this season following last Saturday's remarkable comeback win over South Fremantle at Fremantle Oval with the black-and-whites to regain top spot with a win over Claremont at Steel Blue Oval this Saturday. Falcons book spot in Foxtel Cup grand final

WEST Perth has advanced to the Foxtel Cup grand final for 2014 after recording a thumping 74-point victory over the Western Storm from Tasmania at Patersons Stadium on Tuesday night. The Falcons kicked the only seven goals of the first half and the opening nine majors of the match to set up the eventual 15.7 (97) to 3.5 (23) victory in emphatic fashion. The win advances to West Perth to the Tuesday July 22 Foxtel Cup grand final where it will face the winner of next Tuesday's other semi-final between the WAFL's East Perth and the VFL's Williamstown.
