The West Australian Football Commission continues to support the provision of facilities for grassroots football clubs.
Recent funding announcements have included a clubroom redevelopment for Collegians Amateur Football Club and lighting project for City Beach Oval.
The Collegians project is a long overdue $2.7m project and with the support of the WAFC the Club was successful in gaining AFL funding of $50,000 from the national Facility Development Reserve.
The majority of the funding is from the City of Nedlands ($2.1m), with the Department for Sport and Recreation contributing $500,000 and the Collegians Amateur Football Club adding a further $125,000.
The redevelopment will include a brand new main club room, bar and function area, three new changerooms, facilities for coaches, a medical room, storage and player areas.
The football club will be the main users however the new building will be a multi-functional facility that will be available for lease by community groups and for private events, parties and functions. The project is scheduled for completion in October 2015.
The City Beach Oval lighting project, pictured, was a Town of Cambridge project with the WAFC contributing $10,000 from its Facility Fund. The project was recently completed and officially opened on Friday, June 19 .
WAFC General Manager Strategic Facilities Geoff Glass said the official opening of the new lights was a credit to all involved.
“A number of volunteers have played a significant role and the financial commitment and support of the elected members at the Town of Cambridge has been tremendous,” he said.
“The WA Football Commission was able to offer a modest contribution and we are proud to have been associated with the project.
“Given football is a winter sport the need for lights to take full advantage of the existing facilities is increasingly important. Overall, with the refurbished and extended changeroom and function space and now the ability to meet night game standards, City Beach Oval is a first class community facility.”
