Round 3 WAFL Wrap Up

ROUND 3 of the 2014 WAFL season featured a fourth-gamer finishing with an eight-goal haul while the reigning premiers got off the mark, and Subiaco and East Perth recorded big wins to remain unbeaten. The round began on Friday night under lights at Fremantle Oval with East Perth beating South Fremantle 20.8 (128) to 8.5 (53). Then on Saturday afternoon, Subiaco beat Claremont 18.22 (130) to 6.14 (50) at East Fremantle Oval, Swan Districts defeated Peel Thunder 16.18 (114) to 11.13 (79) at Bassendean's Steel Blue Oval and West Perth downed Perth 15.13 (103) to 13.7 (85) at Arena Joondalup. The best players to have competed at Country Week in Western Australia between 1965 and 2013 were named at a special dinner hosted by Landmark on Friday, April 4. The dinner, which celebrated 40-years of Landmark’s sponsorship of Country Week (now known as the Landmark Country Football Championships), saw the 50-Year All-Stars officially announced by selector Cameron Knapton. Round 3 WAFL Results

SUBIACO recorded a huge win over Claremont on Saturday to continue its unbeaten start to the 2014 WAFL season while Swan Districts and West Perth both recorded their first victories. Round 3 of WAFL action began at Fremantle Oval on Friday night with East Perth beating South Fremantle by 75 points, 20.8 (128) to 8.5 (53) and then there were three matches on Saturday afternoon. The first pitted Claremont against Subiaco at East Fremantle Oval and the Lions recorded their third straight win to start the season, running out thumping 80-point winners 18.22 (130) to 6.14 (50). Swan Districts then stormed home in the second half to beat Peel Thunder 16.18 (114) to 11.13 (79) while West Perth also finished over the top of Perth winning 15.13 (103) to 13.7 (85). Royals stay unbeaten, Bulldogs winless

EAST Perth remains unbeaten and South Fremantle winless this WAFL season with the Royals putting together their most dominant performance of 2014 so far recording a 75-point victory on Friday night at Fremantle Oval. After South Fremantle kicked the first goal of the game, East Perth kicked seven of the next eight to lead by 32 points, and then extend that to 75 by the final siren to record the 20.8 (128) to 8.5 (53) victory. Bulldog Swan still hoping Wulff achieves glory

MICHAEL Swan will be doing all he can to make sure that South Fremantle is as physically strong and healthy as he can in 2014, but the long-time East Perth captain would get a great deal of enjoyment out of seeing his former team and in particular Craig Wulff win a premiership he long fought for. Swan was trying to build his physiotherapy career (Swan Physiotherapy) during his decorated playing career at East Perth, but after retiring at the end of the 2013 grand final he can now throw himself full into the profession. ROUND 3 of the 2014 WAFL season will again feature a Friday night clash at Fremantle Oval followed by three crucial matches on Saturday with two of the games pitting a winless team up against an unbeaten one. The round begins on Friday night when the winless South Fremantle hosts the unbeaten East Perth at Fremantle Oval. Then on Saturday, Claremont plays Subiaco at East Fremantle Oval, Swan Districts takes on Peel Thunder at Bassendean's Steel Blue Oval and the winless West Perth does battle with the unbeaten Perth at Arena Joondalup. Royals winning but with plenty of improvement left

EAST Perth coach Brian Dawson feels his team has plenty of improvement in it, but isn’t complaining after two wins to start the 2014 WAFL season with two key midfielders Brendan Lee and Garry Moss a chance to return within the next month. EAST Perth and Subiaco both remained unbeaten and West Perth and South Fremantle winless after Round 2 of the 2014 WAFL season over the weekend. The round began at Fremantle Oval on Friday night with Perth coming from 44 points behind to beat South Fremantle 19.9 (123) to 18.10 (118). Meanwhile on Saturday, Claremont beat West Perth 10.10 (70) to 8.10 (58) at Arena Joondalup, East Perth downed Swan Districts 16.13 (109) to 14.7 (91) at Leederville's Medibank Stadium and Subiaco defeated East Fremantle 16.12 (108) to 6.16 (52) in Geraldton. Round 2 WAFL Results

SUBIACO and East Perth continued their unbeaten starts to the WAFL season after two matches with impressive victories on Saturday afternoon while Claremont bounced back from a poor start in Round 1 to upset the reigning premiers West Perth. Following Round 2 getting underway on Friday night at Fremantle Oval with Perth coming back from 44 points behind to beat South Fremantle by five points to sour the celebration of Kris Miller's 300th WAFL appearance, there were three matches on Saturday. East Fremantle and Subiaco made the trip north to play in Geraldton and it was the Lions who proved too good, winning 16.12 (108) to 6.16 (52). East Perth then overcame a dogged Swan Districts in the final quarter to win 16.13 (109) to 14.7 (91) at Leederville's Medibank Stadium while Claremont kept West Perth scoreless in the fourth quarter to end up winning 10.10 (70) to 8.10 (58). Demons overrun Bulldogs in Miller milestone night

PERTH stormed home at Fremantle Oval on Friday night to come back from 44 points behind to beat South Fremantle by five points in Kris Miller's 300th WAFL match. The Bulldogs shot out of the blocks with eight goals to two in the first quarter and then were 44 points in front when Jacob Martinez kicked his third goal to start the second term, and looked on track to celebrate the remarkable feat of Miller in the best possible way. WITH a player reaching the rare WAFL milestone of 300 games, the reigning premiers unfurling their premiership flag, the regional centre of Geraldton hosting a match and Swan Districts making its first appearance of 2014 all mean that it is a massive Round 2 of action ahead. Round 2 of the 2014 WAFL season begins on Friday night at Fremantle Oval when Kris Miller celebrates his 300th match as South Fremantle hosts Perth. Bounce down is 7pm.
