For much of Matt Priddis’ storied career there were doubters, and after missing out on the draft for a third consecutive year many would have given up, but that wasn’t the Priddis way. The Brownlow medallist had to wait a long time for a chance at his childhood dream, a journey he believes prepared him for the challenges that lay ahead. The West Australian Football Commission and WA Football Media Guild hosted the annual WA Football Media Awards at Optus Stadium tonight, Tuesday November 27, to recognise the season’s high achievers both on and off the field. This included awards for online, print, radio and television media, WAFL and AFL players and coaches, as well as special awards for outstanding service. Claremont Football Club's Jordan Clark was Western Australia's first selection in the 2018 NAB AFL National Draft at Marvel Stadium in Melbourne tonight, Thursday, November 22. Clark was selected by Geelong at number 15 after starring for the Simply Energy WA State 18s at the NAB AFL National 18s Championships, where he won WA's MVP Award and was named as an All-Australian. Football fans have a chance to secure their own piece of Subiaco Oval history when an auction of timber bench seats and other items of public interest is held at the ground on Saturday, December 8. The first lot of seats to be auctioned on December 8 will include 322 timber bench seats from the two-tier stand, which was constructed in 1981. These are the oldest remaining seats at the ground. The benches will be available in configurations of 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 seats. Three new WAFL Colts coaches have been appointed to key positions in WA’s Talent Pathway. These include Mick Glassborrow at Peel Thunder, Luke Tedesco, pictured, at South Fremantle and Chayce Creedy at Subiaco. Glassborrow, who was a State Academy midfield coach in 2018, replaces outgoing Peel Thunder coach Brad Dodd, who was recently appointed as Football Operations Manager at East Fremantle Football Club. Glassborrow also has senior coaching experience as a VFL Assistant Coach at the Box Hill Hawks, and a premiership coach with The Basin Football Club in Victoria’s Eastern Football League. It is with great sadness that the West Australian Football League has been advised by the Millson family that dual Perth Football Club premiership player Ross Millson passed away on Wednesday, November 14 aged 71 years. A skilful all-round footballer, Millson played 103 league games for the Demons between 1967 and 1974, including a premiership in his debut season when he featured on a half forward flank in the 18.12 (120) to 15.12 (102) Grand Final win over East Perth. In the following year’s Grand Final victory against the same opponent, he was among his side’s best players as a wingman, showcasing his skills alongside the likes of Barry Cable, Ian Miller and Bob Shields in a star-studded line-up. Ten of Western Australia's most promising young female footballers have been named in the 2019 NAB AFL Women’s Academy squads. Mikayla Bowen (Swan Districts), Rosie Deegan (Subiaco), Courtney Hodder (Peel Thunderbirds), pictured, Emma O'Driscoll (Swan Districts), Tayla Pescud (Swan Districts) and Roxanne Roux (East Fremantle), have been named in the Level 2 squad, while Abbey Dowrick (Subiaco), Brianna Hyde (Swan Districts), Mikayla Hyde (Swan Districts) and Sarah Verrier (Peel Thunderbirds) have been included in the Level 1 squad. THE changes at South Fremantle this off-season have continued with another great and favourite son of the Bulldogs deciding to retire while another former AFL player has decided to return in 2019. On the back of the retirements of Ashton Hams and Ryan Cook, and the departure of Shane Hockey, at the end of the 2018 WAFL season, Cory Dell'Olio has decided to join the trio on the list of outs for the Bulldogs in 2019 along with the ever-popular and dedicated Jarrod Parry.
