WAFC records strong results for future of footballFriday, February 26, 2016 - 11:20 AM

A highly successful 2015 has resulted in the West Australian Football Commission (WAFC) recording a cash profit of $2.12 million and achieving its budget strategy of building working capital to secure the future of Football in WA during a period of substantial change for the sport.

The strong cash result was outlined at tonight’s Annual General Meeting (Thursday, February 25), along with the annual investment of more than $23 million into developing WA football.

The WAFC’s strong result was achieved from a combination of the on-field success of the West Coast Eagles and Fremantle Football Club, along with revenue growth generated by Perth Stadium Management from four sell-out AFL finals, major concerts and two Monster Jam events at Domain Stadium.

Over 80% of the WAFC’s income is directly invested back into football in the community, with most of the remaining expenditure related to providing the staff, resources and assets required to support the development of football in WA.

Other major achievements in 2015 included surpassing strategic goals for participation and engagement, such as:

  • A 9% increase in participation with 224,882 West Australians now actively involved in Football competitions or programs
  • A 23% increase in Auskick participation – the largest increase in Australia
  • A television audience of more than 700,000 for the first year of WAFL commercial broadcasts with Channel 7
  • Record annual attendance at Domain Stadium of more than 1.12 million
  • 88% customer service satisfaction at Domain Stadium

WAFC Interim Chief Executive Gavin Taylor said strong revenue and building working capital were critical to ensuring the organisation could maintain its ongoing investment in WA football.

“The WAFC remains focused on developing football in WA at all levels of the community. To sustain the remarkable participation growth we have achieved over the past decade we must continue to generate cash profits from all operations at Domain Stadium and our AFL Clubs.

“We would like to thank all of our stakeholders and commercial partners who have supported football in Western Australia which has allowed the WAFC to sustain its investment into football across the State.”
