Kununurra recently played host to the East Kimberley WAFC Cup which was a clash between the Kununurra Boabs and the formidable Halls Creek Cowboys.
The first quarter was a close affair with only one goal scored by the home team, as both sides were having trouble kicking due to the blustery conditions.
There was a turnaround in the second quarter as the game started to open up. The Boabs added an extra two goals while the Cowboys put their first goal through after a well worked passage down the wing by Halls Creek speedster, Ronald Carlton.
The teams were well matched during the second half and there were constant lead changes throughout the last two quarters. In the final five minutes of the game Kununurra defended strongly with Keren Long and Donald Williams having some great runs off the half back flank ensuring the Boabs held on for a close win.
The final score was Kununurra Boabs 5.3 - 33 to the Halls Creek Cowboys 4.7 - 31. The final margin of two points reflected the closeness of the two teams with the game being played in good spirit and the boys showing great skill over the four quarters.
