Saturday Round 8 McDonald's WAFL ResultsSunday, May 10, 2015 - 11:05 AM - by Chris Pike

THREE matches of the One Life Round of the 2015 McDonald's WAFL Premiership season took place on Saturday afternoon with Subiaco extending its lead atop the ladder, West Perth pulling off another stunning comeback and Claremont winning a second straight match.

Three of the four Round 8 WAFL matches took place on Saturday and it included Subiaco moving two games clear on top of the ladder with a 16.16 (112) to 7.10 (52) over the second placed Peel Thunder at Mandurah's Bendigo Bank Stadium.

The first Perth derby took place at Joondalup's HBF Arena and East Perth was in control leading by 42 points midway through the third quarter, but West Perth then kicked the last 12 goals of the match to end up winning 17.16 (118) to 12.8 (80).

And then in Mt Barker, Claremont and Swan Districts played to celebrate the opening of the new facilities at Sounness Park and it was the Tigers who made it two wins on the trot with a 10.18 (78) to 10.7 (67) victory over the black-and-whites.

The top two teams met at Bendigo Bank Stadium but Subiaco dominated Peel from the outset running out 60-point winners to improve to a 6-1 record on the season to shoot clear of the now 4-3 Thunder.

Shane Yarran put in another remarkable performance for Subiaco kicking six goals to take his season tally to 29 from just six matches. Brett Mahoney, Kyle Halligan and Charles Le Fanu all kicked two apiece for Subiaco as well.

Brett Robinson racked up 34 possessions for the Lions, Wayde Twomey 25, Chris Phelan 25, Clancy Wheeler 20, Scott Hancock 20, Will Fetherstonhaugh 20 and Joel Latham 18.

It was a second straight loss for Peel on the back of the club's first ever four-game winning streak despite Leroy Jetta kicking three goals from just four kicks.

Jonathon Griffin didn’t play but Jack Hannath had 41 hit outs in the ruck while Tendai Mzungu gathered 28 possessions, Lachie Weller 27, Jacob Ballard 25, Tom Sheridan 22, Brendon Jones 19, Brayden Lawler 18 and Hayden Crozier 18.

Perth derbies never fail to disappoint and with West Perth and East Perth both coming into Saturday's clash at HBF Arena off losses last weekend and on 3-3 records, there was plenty at stake.

East Perth wasn’t helped before bounce down losing key midfielders Brendan Lee and Brant Colledge as well as star defender, and sometimes forward, Kyle Anderson but the Royals got on top throughout the second and third quarters.

West Perth dominated the first 20 minutes but couldn’t put the score on the board and then East Perth kicked five consecutive goals either side of quarter-time, and then by time-on of the third quarter had opened up a 42-point advantage despite losing Craig Wulff for the rest of the day.

However, from that point on, West Perth kicked the last two goals just before three quarter-time and then the only 10 goals of the last term to pull off a second remarkable comeback in three weeks to end up going from 42 points down to winning by 38 points in little more than half an hour.

Andrew Strijk finished with a best on ground performance for West Perth with 31 possessions, nine inside 50s, seven marks and two goals in the stunning comeback.

Shane Nelson also racked up 43 possessions, Aaron Black 34, Jay van Berlo 22, Steven Browne 20, Aidan Lynch 19 and Luke Tedesco 18 while Black, Michael Lourey, Matt Johnson, van Berlo, Lynch and Kody Manning all kicked two goals apiece for the Falcons.

Scott Lycett kicked three goals for East Perth to go with 20 possessions, seven marks and 34 hit outs while Shayne Hill also kicked two majors.

Steven Payne picked up 28 possessions for the Royals, Alec Waterman 28, Mark Hutchings 26, Patrick McGinnity 24, Kane Lucas 23 and Mitch Howlett 23.

Claremont might have lost the first five games of the year, but has now strung two straight wins together backing up last week's win over West Perth by beating Swans by 11 points in Mt Barker on Saturday.

Kepler Bradley and Jack Bradshaw kicked two goals each for Claremont while Tom Ledger racked up 31 possessions, Corey Yeo 22, Ian Richardson 21, Ryan Lim 20, Ryan Neates 18, Matthew Davies 17 and Haydn Busher 17.

Rudy Riddoch kicked three goals for Swans and Simon Donovan two while Nathan Blakely played his first game of the season and did well in the ruck with 18 disposals, 15 hit outs and a goal.

Ryan Davis also had 24 possessions for the black-and-whites, Nathan Broad 23, Aaron Elari 23, Ben Whitsed 20 and Matt Riggio 18.
