Round 2 WAFL ResultsSunday, March 29, 2015 - 12:19 AM - by Chris Pike

SOUTH Fremantle and Subiaco are now both unbeaten after two rounds of the 2015 WAFL season while West Perth and East Perth both notched their first victories of the campaign in Round 2 action on Saturday.

All four Round 2 WAFL matches took place on Saturday afternoon with Subiaco beating East Fremantle 17.12 (114) to 9.13 (67) at ATOM Stadium, East Perth beating Swan Districts 16.13 (109) to 15.6 (96) at Medibank Stadium and West Perth downing Peel Thunder 13.6 (84) to 11.11 (77) at HBF Arena.

And finally at Lathlain Park and live on 7mate, South Fremantle held off a fast-finishing Perth to record a 12.13 (85) to 11.9 (75) victory.

The results mean that South Fremantle and Subiaco have both won their opening two games of the season while West Perth and East Perth recorded victories in response to opening round defeats.

Swan Districts and East Fremantle both suffered defeats following first round victories while Peel Thunder lost after the Round 1 bye and Perth has lost its opening two matches of the season.

Reigning premiers Subiaco opened its season in style with a 45-point win over Claremont in Round 1 and then backed up with a commanding 47-point victory over East Fremantle.

The Sharks were coming off a 55-point win over East Perth, but were no match for the Lions who dominated the second half after scores were level at the break. Subiaco kicked 11 goals to three in the second to record the convincing win.

Shane Yarran backed up his five-goal performance against Claremont with another five majors against East Fremantle with Clancy Wheeler adding three goals, James Garcia two, Lachlan Delahunty two and Rhys Waters two.

Captain Kyal Horsley racked up 35 possessions, Leigh Kitchin 29, Delahunty 26, Chris Phelan 23 and Brett Robinson 17 in his first game with Subiaco.

Brandon Ellis was a shining light for the Sharks booting five goals while Rory O'Brien gathered 27 possessions, Brock O'Brien 23, Bradd Dalziell 23 and Cameron Eardley 21.

East Perth didn’t kick a goal for two and-a-half quarters to open its season last week in an eventual 55-point loss to East Fremantle while Swan Districts smashed Perth by 96 points, but it was a very different story on Saturday.

The Royals came out of the blocks fast at Medibank Stadium with a five-goal to one opening quarter and despite Swans continuing to fight and delivering a seven-goal to two final quarter, East Perth was never seriously threatened and won by 13 points.

Josh Hill kicked three goals for East Perth with Liam Duggan, Freddie Clutterbuck, Simon Tunbridge and Alec Waterman all adding two apiece.

Steven Payne racked up 31 possessions for the Royals, Brant Colledge 30, Waterman 26, Garry Moss 25, Kane Lucas 24 and Duggan 22.

Ricky Cary kicked three goals for Swan Districts while Matthew Rogers, Joel Houghton, Ryan Davis and Nathan Broad all kicked two. Tim Geappen also kicked two for the black-and-whites in his 150th appearance with the club.

Aaron Elari compiled 27 possessions for Swans, Matt Riggio 26 and Adam Faulkner 25.

West Perth had a disappointing start to its season with a 35-point loss to South Fremantle but the Falcons' hopes of bouncing back was never going to be easy against a strong Peel Thunder line-up.

West Perth started well but by half-time Peel had steadied to be in control with an 11-point lead that could have been more.

However, the Falcons lifted after the break and kicked the first six goals of the third quarter to lead by 26 points at one stage, and still by 20 at the last break.

Three goals to one to Peel had the Thunder right back in the contest, but West Perth steadied with a final quarter goal to Matt Guadagnin and won by seven points.

Michael Lourey kicked four goals from six kicks for West Perth in his first home game with the club while Kody Manning also kicked three majors and Luke Meadows two.

Andrew Strijk racked up 38 possessions in a best on ground performance while Shane Nelson gathered 32 disposals, Aaron Black 30 and Rohan Kerr 22.

Danyle Pearce, Nathan Fahey and Max Duffy all kicked two goals for Peel while Connor Blakely racked up 30 possessions, Lachie Weller 24, Michael Barlow 23, Pearce 22, Jacob Ballard 21 and captain Brendon Jones 21. Jonathon Griffin had 53 hit outs in the ruck.

South Fremantle looked set to record a thumping win over Perth for much of the afternoon at Lathlain Park leading by 42 points midway through the third quarter until a quick burst of three goals from the Demons.

The Bulldogs then still appeared in command leading by 39 points seven minutes into the final term following goals to Haiden Schloithe and James Sellar, but the Demons then found their best form of the season to date.

Quick goals to Daniel Arangio, Mitch Morton, Cody Leggett, Daniel O'Sullivan and Toby Gianatti suddenly had Perth within eight points heading into time-on before Ben Saunders kicked his fourth goal in style from outside 50 to steady the Bulldogs.

The win is the seventh straight for the Bulldogs after they won the last five of 2014 and it is a 16th straight loss for the Demons after they lost the final 14 of last season.

James Sellar also booted three goals for South Fremantle with Craig White adding two while Haiden Schloithe gathered 27 possessions, Blayne Wilson 23, Ryan Cook 23 and Brock Higgins 44 hit outs.

Leggett kicked three goals for Perth with Mitch Morton and Arangio also kicking two. Dene White racked up 35 disposals, Aidan Tropiano 33, Brett Wolfenden 24, Liam McKenna 24 and Joel Kalajzic 20.
