Over the decades, it’s been home to some historic footballing clashes and spectacular rock concerts and this November, Patersons Stadium will play host to its first Stadium Stair Race.
This unique event will see entrants not only wind their way up and down the stadium’s thousands of stairs but the course gives them a behind the scenes look at the Fremantle Dockers’ match rooms and the VIP areas.
Patersons Stadium General Manager, Gavin Taylor said the venue was looking forward to hosting the first ever Patersons Stadium Stair Race in partnership with the Multiple Sclerosis Society of WA.
“This new initiative is part of the West Australian Football Commission’s ongoing commitment to providing a range of diverse and exciting events for the West Australian community and ensuring the venue continues to be utilised at all times of the year,” Mr Taylor said.
“Introducing new events to Patersons Stadium is also extremely important in terms of generating revenue and demonstrating the WAFC’s expertise as a stadium and event manager.
“We encourage people to take up the challenge and get involved in the first ever Patersons Stadium Stair Race. It is sure to be a great event and a unique opportunity to see the stadium for a range of vantage points, with the race course including the stands, corporate areas and player change rooms before finishing on the turf.”
The Multiple Sclerosis Society of WA (MSWA) is this year’s charity partner for the Stadium Stair Race.
“We’re really pleased to be chosen as the beneficiary of this new and exciting event and we will make sure the money goes towards helping people with MS and other neurological diseases,” said MSWA CEO, Marcus Stafford.
“We’ve just committed a record $1.25 million over the next year towards research on finding the cause and cure for MS, with half a million dollars of that to be specifically spent on WA based research. We’ve also opened up a new respite and accommodation centre in Hamilton Hill and we continue to expand on the services we provide to people with neurological conditions, their families and carers.”
MSWA Ambassador and West Coast Eagle Josh Kennedy has thrown down the challenge to Perth’s other sporting codes to take part in the event.
“Patersons Stadium is the traditional home of football, so it would be interesting if a Western Force, Western Fever, Wildcats, Perth Glory or Perth Heat player was to claim the win on the big day,” said Josh.
“A year’s worth of bragging rights as the Patersons Stadium Stair Race champion are there to be had and you’ll have helped raised money for a very good cause.”
