SWAN Districts' colts are straight into the WAFL grand final for 2014 after a tight win over Claremont on Sunday while South Fremantle kept its season alive with a come from behind win over East Perth.
Swan Districts finished the colts season as minor premiers and took on the second-placed Claremont in the second semi-final on Sunday morning with Swans winning a thriller 7.14 (56) to 7.9 (51) to advance straight into the grand final.
South Fremantle faced East Perth also on Sunday morning at Leederville's Medibank Stadium with the Bulldogs winning 11.10 (76) to 8.7 (55) to move into the preliminary final while ending the season of the Royals.
Swan Districts is now preparing for the Sunday September 21 grand final at Patersons Stadium with Claremont and South Fremantle to play in this Sunday's preliminary final at Medibank Stadium for the right to face them.
Claremont got off to a good start against Swan Districts at East Fremantle's ATOM Stadium leading by nine points at quarter-time, but Swans had assumed the lead by five points at half-time.
The Tigers again had the advantage of the wind in the third quarter and took advantage booting three goals to nil to be 13 points in front at the last change, but Swans booted 2.7 to 0.1 in the final term to end up winning by five points to move straight into the grand final.
Aidan Anderson and Robert Mostert kicked two goals each for Swan Districts while Jason Daniels racked up 32 possessions, Albert Dean 27, Levi Ridley 21, Warrick Wilson 21, Ben Whitsed 20 and Ethan Maguire 17.
Thomas Gajewski kicked two of Claremont's goals for the game form 14 possessions and six marks.
Alec Waterman finished with 25 possessions, eight tackles, five inside-50 entries and a goal as well for the Tigers.
Ryan Lim collected 22 disposals for the Tigers, Jared Hardisty 21, Isaac Baum 19 and Bailey Rogers 18.
South Fremantle's colts have made the last three grand finals for two premierships and now have an opportunity to make it to a fourth in-a-row after a 21-point first semi-final win over East Perth on Sunday.
The Royals led the Bulldogs by two goals at half-time but South Fremantle then got going in the second half with four goals to nil in the third quarter, and then another four to three in the final term against the breeze to end up winning by 21 points.
As many as seven South Fremantle players dropped back to the colts after finishing the season either in the reserves or league side, and several of those had a significant impact on the result in the finish.
Jacob Dragovich was outstanding finishing with 29 possessions, six marks, five tackles and two goals with Jarrod Pickett, Kade Stewart and Billy Frampton all kicking two goals apiece. Ruckman Frampton also had 15 possessions, five marks and 21 hit outs for the game.
Matthew Ah Siu also racked up 24 possessions for South Fremantle, Bailey Matera 20 and Braden Fimmano 18.
Tarir Bayok kicked two goals for East Perth while Marty Zambotto compiled 21 possessions, Shayne Hille 20 and Jake Anderson 15.
Ruckman Blair Della Franca worked hard for 12 possessions and 23 hit outs.
