SUBIACO has been the dominant reserves team all season and is straight into the grand final for 2014 after beating West Perth on Sunday with the Falcons to now face Claremont in the preliminary final.
Subiaco hosted West Perth in the second semi-final at Medibank Stadium on Sunday and the Lions went on to win 15.8 (98) to 5.12 (42) to qualify straight for the grand final at Patersons Stadium on Sunday September 21.
The first semi-final then took place at East Fremantle's ATOM Stadium with Claremont scoring a comprehensive 19.5 (119) to 7.10 (52) victory over East Fremantle to go into the preliminary final and end the Sharks' season in the reserves.
The reserves' preliminary final will now take place this Sunday at Medibank Stadium with Claremont and East Fremantle playing off for the right to meet Subiaco in the grand final.
Subiaco won 18 of 20 games during the season and finished with a massive percentage of over 225 so headed into the finals as premiership favourites, not to mention with a host of players still desperate to put themselves in the mix with the Lions' league side.
The Lions kicked five goals to one against West Perth in the opening quarter, went on to lead by 39 points at half-time, 30 at three quarter-time and then 56 by the final siren.
Kyle Halligan kicked six goals from nine kicks and eight marks for Subiaco with Dylan Clarke adding three majors and ruckman Frank Stockley two to go with 18 possessions, six marks and 23 hit outs.
Simon Moore played six straight league games between Rounds 16 and 22 before losing his spot in the team in Round 23 and then for the second semi-final, but kept himself in the mix for a call up with 37 possessions and a goal.
Matt Bogensperger also racked up 36 disposals, Ryan Wade 29, Will Fetherstonhaugh 24, Rob Forrest 23, Scott Worthington 23, Reece Blechynden 22 and Craig Hoskins 22.
Forrest and Worthington have not played a league match in 2014 due to injury but the former has now played four league games, and the latter four as well to mean they will at least be considered by some degree this week by league coach Jarrad Schofield.
West Perth did have eight players drop back into its reserves team from the league side in the final round while also included two league premiership players from last year, but it didn’t help the Falcons much up against the Lions.
Mitch McPhee, Drew Rohde, Ben O'Regan, Corey Chalmers and Cameron Branch were West Perth's goalkickers while Trent Manzone gathered 27 possessions, Jack Thrum 20, Ben McNamara 19, Brayden Antonio 17 and Kris Shannon 17.
Claremont, meanwhile, dominated the first semi-final from the outset leading by nine points at quarter-time, 13 at half-time and 37 at three quarter-time before ending up winning by 67 in the finish.
Shane McAdam kicked five goals from five kicks for Claremont with Jack Richardson and Jackson Starcevich also booting five majors apiece.
Keifer Yu racked up 34 possessions for Claremont, Steven Edwards 28, Matthew Goyder 28, Ben Daniher 23, Dean Blackwell 23 and Maximillian Bentley 19.
Andrew Stokes and Tim Bristow kicked two goals each for East Fremantle while Jake Schleicher picked up 32 possessions, Danny Chartres 26, Tom Hooker 23 and Michael Edwards 21 to go with seven marks and six inside-50 entries.
