The WAFC Youth Girls Competition Preliminary Final was held last Sunday morning at HBF Arena in Joondalup and Claremont were pitted against the reigning premiers in South Fremantle. After their comfortable win against East Fremantle in the first semi-final, Claremont were up and about heading into the game. South Fremantle, coming off a loss to the Peel Thunderbirds, were looking to rebound and make it back to defend their flag from 2013.
In a tight game, Claremont came out victorious in a thrilling 10 point victory that has now lifted them into their inaugural Youth Girls Grand Final, defeating South Fremantle, 8.2 (50) to 6.4 (40). Claremont, after finishing the home and away season in 3rd position, will play the Peel Thunderbirds for a chance to take home the Rogers Cup in 2014.
After an unfortunate forfeit earlier in the season, the Grand Final will be the first time the teams will play against each other this year. The Youth Girls Grand Final will commence at 10am at HBF Arena, Joondalup and with the canteen and coffee available early, the day is sure to be an exciting finish to the 2014 season.
After the Youth Girls Grand Final, the fairest and best award, coaches’ awards and the Rogers Cup Grand Final presentations will commence at the conclusion of the Youth Girls Grand Final.
With special guest speakers, including AFL Manager of Female Football Development; Jan Cooper, Melbourne FC Head Coach and Women’s U/18s Head Coach, Michelle Cowan and also the number 1 pick in the 2014 National Women’s Draft, Tiah Haynes in attendance, the Youth Girls Grand Final is sure to be an excellent exhibition of the future of female football in WA.
With the Youth Girls Grand Final running parallel with the WAWFL Grand Finals this weekend, it’s a great chance to get to HBF Arena this Sunday and watch the Youth Girls Competition culminate in what should be an exciting exhibition of Youth Girls football, with the WAWFL Reserves Grand Final between Coastal Titans and Swan Districts due to start at 12pm and the WAWFL Grand Final, also between Coastal Titans and Swan Districts to start at 2:30pm.
Ground entry is $5 which includes the 2014 WAWFL Year Book that contains the Team lists of all participating teams, hopefully everyone can get along and support the next generation of female footballers kick starting the Female Football Grand Finals.
