Umpires hit milestones within the Female CompetitionsThursday, August 21, 2014 - 3:44 PM

The WA Women’s Football League is Congratulating Des Morgan and Graeme Cook for successfully achieving their 100^th game Umpiring for the Women’s Football League.

Des has been umpiring since 1978 where he started at the South Suburban Murray National Football League. Des became involved in the female competitions when he was asked to fill in back in May 2010 and he has continued to do so since. “I enjoy seeing the skills that some women have, some would even show up the men and it is good to do something different than umpiring men games all the time” Des said.

Also playing the role as Female Competitions Umpire Coordinator, Des encourages and promotes the umpiring within the WA Women’s Football League and the WAFC Youth Girls. He comments "Get down any Sunday and see the skills and the way they go in and get the ball"

Graeme, on the other hand has been umpiring since 1997 after a knee reconstruction that ended his playing career. Graeme was asked for his services in the WAWFL when umpires were supplied by teams and has been hooked since. Graeme’s advice to anyone interested in umpiring within the Female Competitions is “The women want to be treated exactly the same as the men, as they play just as hard as them”. When asked what he enjoys about umpiring the girls, Graeme’s stated “It’s always played in good spirit”.
