A NEW highest score for the season, biggest first quarter, biggest last quarter and a move up to second position was all part of the Round 17 WAFL action on Saturday afternoon, and that all took place at just one of the three venues where matches were played.

The team to achieve all of that was Subiaco who kicked 8.5 in the first quarter, 10.1 in the final term and then 27.9 (171) to 15.8 (98) for the match against Perth at Leederville's Medibank Stadium.

That saw the Lions kick the highest first and last quarter scores of the season, the highest score in a match by any team this season and in the process replace Swan Districts in second position on the WAFL ladder after 17 rounds of the 2014 season.

In other results on Saturday afternoon, Claremont stormed home to beat Swan Districts 14.13 (97) to 14.10 (94) at the Claremont Showground and East Fremantle also finished strongly to defeat Peel Thunder 14.14 (98) to 11.8 (74) at East Fremantle Oval.

Subiaco started on fire in the first quarter at home to Perth with 8.5 bettering the 8.2 that South Fremantle kicked back in Round 2 under lights at Fremantle Oval also against the Demons.

Perth came back to win that night, but that wouldn’t be the case this time around even though five goals late in the third quarter brought the Demons to within 23 points at the last change and gave them a sniff.

Subiaco wouldn’t let that happen, though, with 10 goals in the final quarter to win by 73 points and move past Swan Districts by percentage on the ladder.

Subiaco had far too much firepower in the finish with Shane Yarran booting six goals, Rhys Waters five, Matt Boland four, Andrew McDougall three and Clancy Wheeler two.

Captain Kyal Horsley racked up 35 possessions, George Hampson 25, McDougall 25, Chris Phelan 23, Jason Bristow 20, Simon Moore 20 and Shaun Hildebrandt 20.

Matthew Moody and Cameron Manuel kicked three goals each for Perth, and Gerald Ugle, Brennan Stack and Michael Sinclair two each.

Aidan Tropiano collected 24 possessions, Dene White 22, Paul Bevan 22, Manuel 20, Sinclair 20 and Chance Bateman 20.

Swan Districts appeared in control against Claremont for most of the afternoon at the Showground leading by eight points at quarter-time, three at half-time and 27 at three quarter-time, but the Tigers roared home with six goals to one in the final quarter to win by three points.

It was the story of two exciting forwards for Claremont with emerging 21-year-old Jack Bradshaw booting seven goals and 11-game 19-year-old Brenden Abbott five.

Luke Blackwell racked up another 38 possessions for the Tigers, Corey Yeo 26, Ryan Neates 25, Matthew Davies 24, Jake Murphy 23, Tom Ledger 23, Andrew Foster 21 and Jordan McAllister 20.
Tim Geappen kicked four goals for Swan Districts with Ricky Cary, Aidan Anderson, Ryan Davis and Aaron Elari all adding two apiece.

Elari also had 23 possessions for Swans, Jacob Burnham 22, Tony Notte 20, Connor Blakely 20 and Matthew Jukes 19.

East Fremantle then beat Peel Thunder by 24 points to further secure fourth position on the ladder and keep Peel on the bottom.

Brett Peake and Jack Perham kicked three goals each for the Sharks with Bradd Dalziell and James Bristow adding two apiece.

Sandover Medallist Rory O'Brien compiled 33 possessions, Dalziell 28, Mark McGough 27 and Scott Hancock 20.

Eddie Dann was outstanding for Peel with 30 possessions and two goals while Hayden Crozier also finished with 25 touches and two goals.

Tom Sheridan racked up 34 possessions for the Thunder as well, Brendon Jones 26, Jacob Ballard 24, Laine Wilkins 21 and Josh Mathers 19.
