THE Perth Football Club has announced that Damien McMahon is no longer the senior coach after reaching a mutual agreement that he will stand down effective immediately.
The board of the Perth Football Club reached the decision that it was time for McMahon to step aside as senior coach with the Demons currently sitting in seventh place on the WAFL ladder with a 3-9 record for the 2014 season, and having won just once since Round 2.
McMahon will be replaced for the rest of the 2014 season by former Peel Thunder senior coach, dual colts premiership coach and former WA State 16s coach Trevor Williams.
However, Williams will not be putting his hand up for the job in 2015 and beyond with a major factor in the club's decision to part with McMahon now to get the search going immediately for his replacement.
The board of the Perth Football Club made the decision regarding McMahon on Thursday night, but allowed him to coach out the game on Saturday against Peel Thunder at Mandurah's Bendigo Bank Stadium that saw the Demons go down by 19 points.
McMahon was then informed of the decision following the match and the Demons' playing group was told of the news on Monday night prior to training.
The Demons have the bye this weekend before then returning to action in Round 15 against East Fremantle at East Fremantle Oval.
McMahon initially arrived at Perth as a player in 2003. He then returned to the club firstly as the colts coach and then ahead of the 2011 season, he replaced Andrew Jarman as senior coach.
Perth had an encouraging season in his first year in charge as well winning nine games in 2011 to finish in sixth position before then winning just six games in 2012 and finishing eighth.
Last year promised so much for the Demons, though, and they actually sat inside the top-four for the majority of the 2013 season looking on track for the club's first finals appearance since 1997 before a late season fadeout saw them end up finishing sixth with 10 wins.
Again 2014 started promisingly with wins over Claremont and South Fremantle, but winning just one match since Round 2 has ended up forcing the board's hand as it now searches for the next man to try and lead Perth back to being a force in the WAFL
