West Australian Football League (WAFL) games will be played in regional WA again in 2014 as part of the State Government’s Country Sports Enrichment Scheme (CSES).
There have been 46 WAFL games played with more than $1.1million in funding since the CSES scheme commenced in 1999.
In 2014, CSES games will be hosted by East Fremantle and Subiaco in Geraldton and Kalgoorlie. Swan Districts Football Club and the West Australian Football Commission are also working with local stakeholders in Bunbury to schedule a third country game at the newly redeveloped Hands Oval. Details will be confirmed as soon as possible.
FIXTURES:
Round 2 – Saturday 29 March East Fremantle v Subiaco at Geraldton – WA Country Builders Stadium
Round 12 – Saturday 14 June Subiaco v Perth at Kalgoorlie – Sir Richard Moore Reserve
WAFC General Manager Pathways and Competitions Steve Hargrave said the WAFL was committed to taking games to regional areas as part of the CSES and thanked the Department of Sport and Recreation, State Government and Sports Minister Terry Waldron for their outstanding support.
“Playing these games simply wouldn’t be possible without them,” Hargrave said.
“Thanks must also go to the football leagues in each community for their efforts in organising these games at a local level. Country football has a long and envious record as a breeding ground for top football talent and it is satisfying to reward this passion by taking WAFL contests to regional WA.
“The clubs have selected the venues within their country zones for this year’s games in consultation with the local stakeholders and we are looking forward to seeing great WAFL contests played in front of the country fans in these regional centres.”
