The WAFC Female High Performance Program is thrilled to announce that South Fremantle WAFL coach Paul Hasleby will assist the State U18 Youth Girls in 2014.
The strong connection with South Fremantle Football Club was initiated by WAFC Female High Performance Head Coach Michelle Cowan, who is also an Assistant Coach to Hasleby with the South Fremantle League side.
In 2013, Hasleby attended several female training sessions and was impressed by the girls' skill level and desire to learn. He was inspiring in a locker room speech on their final training night, sharing his wealth of knowledge and expertise as a veteran of 208 AFL games with Fremantle.
Hasleby is now coaching South Fremantle Football Club and is at the forefront of developing young WAFL players. Selected as the numnber two Draft pick for Fremantle in 1999, an AFL Rising Star in 2000, All Australian in 2003 and winner of the Ross Glendinning Medal four times throughout his playing career, he will have a wealth of experience to pass on to the U18 Youth Girls and coaching staff.
The 2014 State U18 Youth Girls team will attempt to become the first WA team to win the Youth Girls National Championships. In 2013 the team made the Grand Final and were in front at half time before inaccurate kicking in the third quarter cost them the game.
Following on from the success of the State 16’s in Darwin in 2013 and with players progressing through to the State U18’s, WA is assured of some excellent talent to choose from in 2014.
Academy training will begin on Sunday, January 5 at All Saints College at 8am. All Saints College will again support the program by being the premier training venue for the female State teams and the WAFC Talent Academy. The 2014 Nationals will occur in Canberra in May. Exact dates are yet to be confirmed.
