Claremont Football Club is calling last drinks at Claremont Oval on Saturday, October 26 and announcing its “Best Team Ever” as a farewell to the facility it has called home for 88 years.

Claremont CEO Todd Shimmon said it will be the last event for members and supporters ever held at the current Claremont Football Cub before construction commences on the new facility.

“It will be a great chance to reminisce on social occasions that happened in this facility over the last 88 years. We have also decided to produce a “Best Team Ever” of Claremont Footballers since our inception in 1926 to the WAFL,” he said.

The selection committee of Ken Casellas, John O’Connell, Todd Shimmon, and Ken Venables have set selection criteria for the “Best Team Ever” and are also inviting members of the public to vote for their team from a shortlist of 50 at http://www.claremontfc.com.au/

 Selection Criteria

• A player must have appeared in a minimum of 50 WAFL league matches for Claremont (not including pre-season, mid-season or post-season competitions like the Foxtel Cup).
• When judging the claims of all players the following is taken into account:
• Awards
  • Brownlow Medal,
  • Sandover Medal,
  • Simpson Medal,
  • leading goalkicking,
  • CFC fairest-and-bests
  • State games played,
  • grand final appearances
  • Premierships
  • performances at a higher level after leaving Claremont to play VFL or AFL football.

The final judgment, of course, is the learned opinion of the selection panel. Members of the panel will be required to judge all players on their natural talent and their brilliance. The final 22 will be selected in position, not the best CFC 22 players.

Members of the public are invited visit the club website to select their own side from a shortlist of 50 by Thursday, October 24. The winner will be announced on Saturday, October 26 at 7pm at Claremont Football Club and receive a framed CFC “Best Team Ever” valued at $400 and a $200 voucher to Villa Roma Restaurant.
