State 16s MVP, ball magnet among players to watch as EGT WAFL Colts finals beginThursday, August 28, 2025 - 9:44 PM - by Jordan McArdle

We take a look at the players to watch as EGT WAFL Colts finals kick off this weekend.

James Artemis (East Fremantle)
Average tackles: 4.2

The State 16s MVP and All-Australian is quickly finding his feet at EGT WAFL Colts level.

A hard-working talent who can play a variety of positions, Artemis was named on a wing in his side’s Qualifying Final clash against Claremont at Revo Fitness Stadium on Saturday.

He’s coming off his best game at colts level, with 17 disposals and a goal in the tight loss to West Perth last week.

Cody Curtin (Claremont)
Total goals: 19 in five games

The WA under-18s vice-captain only played around 50 per cent game time in his injury return last round, but still managed to boot five goals.

The tall forward has proven difficult to stop whenever he features in the colts, averaging nearly four goals per game.

He will no doubt be a handful for the Sharks’ defence.

Sam Swadling (West Perth)
Average disposals: 36.7

The premier ball magnet of the WAFL colts competition racked up a career-high 47 disposals to help the Falcons qualify for finals with a thrilling win over East Fremantle last weekend.

The Under-18s All-Australian, who also impressed in his stint in the seniors, has stormed up the AFL draft rankings thanks to an eye-catching campaign at all levels.

No player in the competition averages more than Swadling’s 36.7 touches per game.

Blake Kelly (Swan Districts)
Average disposals: 26.9

Swan Districts’ midfield bull will be crucial to his team’s hopes of knocking off the in-form Falcons in Sunday’s Elimination Final at The Good Grocer Park.

He’s averaged 29 disposals and more than seven tackles per game since returning from National Under-18s Championship duties where he was a part of WA’s leadership group.

Kelly produced arguably his best game of the season against Peel Thunder last round, racking up 33 disposals, eight inside 50s, six tackles and five clearances to lead his side to an imperative comeback win to secure a final spot.
