Players to watch in Round 18 of WAFL actionFriday, August 8, 2025 - 9:47 AM - by Jordan McArdle

We take a look at the players to watch in a massive Round 18 of WAFL action this weekend.

Tyler Lindberg (East Perth)

2025 WAFL averages

Disposals: 13.5

Marks: 6

The Royals have found one in Tyler Lindberg.

The Busselton product had to bide his time before a league berth but has made the most of it since.

The athletic half-forward impressed in his second senior outing against West Coast on Saturday with 20 disposals, nine marks, seven inside 50s and a goal.

Roan O’Hehir (South Fremantle)

2025 WAFL averages

Disposals: 12.4

Total goals: 10

O’Hehir had a derby day to remember on Saturday, booting three goals in South Fremantle’s big win over rivals East Fremantle at Fremantle Community Bank Oval.

The 21-year-old is building nicely at senior level, tallying 27 games since making his debut in 2023.

He’s kicked 10 goals in 12 appearances this season.

Quinton Narkle (Peel Thunder)

2025 WAFL averages

Disposals: 23.5

The Fremantle-listed midfielder has been one of Peel’s best and most consistent players in recent weeks.

Narkle backed up his 42-disposal performance against West Coast with another 27 and seven tackles in Saturday’s loss to Claremont.

He’s combined nicely with the likes of Will Brodie and Liam Reidy in the Thunder engine-room to put his hand up for an AFL recall.

Riley Wills (Perth)

2025 WAFL averages

Disposals: 18.1

The former Subiaco midfielder has found his feet at league level for Perth this season.

The 20-year-old, who won the Jack Clarke Medal back in 2023, has been a strong contributor for the finals-bound Demons.

After tallying four senior appearances in his debut season at Perth last year, the talented youngster has played 15 to cement his spot in the seniors.

He booted two goals from 19 disposals against West Perth last week.

Jed Hagan (East Fremantle)

2025 WAFL averages

Disposals: 12.6

Total goals: 18

Hagan was a shining light in East Fremantle’s tough derby loss last week, booting a career-high five goals.

The Geraldton product has shown he can play a variety of roles at senior level but has been at his most important in attack this season with 18 majors.

Shannon Lucassen (West Coast)

2025 WAFL averages

Disposals: 12.8

Tackles: 4.5

Lucassen’s move from the forward-line to midfield has been a good one for West Coast.

The Eagles co-captain, who played his 50th game for the club last week, has been a reliable contributor this season and hasn’t missed a game.

Jye Bolton (Claremont)

2025 WAFL averages

Disposals: 29.5

The two-time Sandover Medal is a strong chance to poll plenty of votes again this season.

Even in the twilight of his WAFL career, the former Collingwood rookie remains one of the best ball-winning midfielders in the competition.

It will be a good battle between Bolton, fellow Sandover medallist Bailey Rogers and Callan England and Swan Districts’ talented engine-room of Aidan Clarke, Jesse Turner and Jye Chalcraft as the Tigers’ look to strengthen their top-two credentials.

Jehb O’Donohue (Swan Districts)

2025 WAFL averages

Disposals: 14.2

Tackles: 5.6

Could we see O’Donohue be deployed as a tagger this weekend as the Black Ducks look to curtail the influence of the Tigers’ trio of Sandover medallists?

O’Donogue has been good in that role in the past but can also be a threat himself as he showed last week with two goals in the big win over Subiaco.

Shane Nelson (West Perth)

2025 WAFL averages

Disposals: 25.1

Tackles: 4.1

Like Bolton, West Perth ball magnet Shane Nelson is showing no signs of slowing down.

Nelson is still a vital cog in the Falcons’ midfield as they push for a miracle finals berth.

He’s averaging more than 25 disposals per game and coming off 32 and 10 clearances in West Perth’s upset win over Perth.

Expect another big day out against the Lions.

Jack Mayo (Subiaco)

2025 WAFL averages

Disposals: 18.8

Hit-outs: 13.7

Total goals: 19

Mayo has arguably been Subiaco’s best and most important contributor this season.

He’s had to play a variety of roles given the Lions’ massive injury list.

The former St Kilda rookie stuffed the stats sheet against Swan Districts last week with with 26 disposals, 37 hit-outs, eight marks, seven inside 50s, five clearances and a goal.

He’s booted 19 goals this season and averaging decent disposal numbers for a big man with 18.8.
