Peel and Kimberley completed an unbeaten opening day of the Nutrien Ag Solutions Country Football Championships on Thursday to push their case for CBH Group Colts title honours.

Peel Cavaliers were the dominant team of Division One, winning three from three at Scotch College to be the first team through to Friday’s decider at The Good Grocer Park in East Fremantle.

The defending Division One champs started the day with a hard-fought 13-point win over fellow Country Champs powerhouse South West.

They got better as the afternoon went on with Great Southern the next victim by 21 points followed by Great Northern by 27.

Halls Head forward Saul McCann booted four goals for the day with Rockingham’s Riley Crowd also among the team’s best, while Trent Robertson, Daniel Cooper, Blake Russell, Dylan Calcott and Jack Watson were also prominent.

 

 

The Cavaliers take on South West in the grand final at 3.30pm.

The SWFL recovered from their early loss to defeat Great Northern by 36 points before booking their spot in the decider by knocking off Great Southern by four points in a thrilling final game of the day.

Harry Jones and Lattrell May (three goals) were among the South West’s best across the day.

In Division Two, Kimberley Spirit were impressive from start to finish to go 3-0 for the day at Guildford Grammar.

Kimberley held off a fast-finishing Regional Districts to prevail by eight points before victories over the returning West Pilbara (26 points) and Avon/Mortlock (34 points).

Silky-skilled Yardgee Dockers midfielder Jock Mosquito, who recently won the Kimberley Colts Carnival MVP, was outstanding, while Liam Unicomb, D’Andre Jazyk-Cox and Jake Gardiner each contributed two goals.

They face off against Regional Districts, made up of across the Upper Great Southern, Lower South West, Ongerup, Eastern Districts, Esperance and Goldfields, in the final at 1.30pm.

The Red Dogs won two of their three games, beating Avon/Mortlock and West Pilbara with Linkin Eaton (three goals), Howie Clegg and Zach Courboules (two goals apiece) all impressing.

Entry to all Colts games is free, and fans across the State will be able to follow every match via live streaming on Streamer, bringing the action directly into homes throughout regional WA. 

The three-day Nutrien Ag Solutions senior divisions kick off on Friday and will also be live on Streamer.
