WAFL Recap: Round 13Monday, July 7, 2025 - 12:42 PM

The WAFL top five continue to separate themselves from the bottom five as the season heads into the final seven rounds.

South Fremantle 10.9 (69) V Claremont 6.6 (42)

The Bulldogs got the chocolates in the top of the table clash to claim their 11th victory in 12 games this season as their terrific run of form continues.

The premiership favourites are in the box seat to win the flag for the first time since 2020.

Isiah Winder was the only multiple goalkicker with the clubs combining for 14 individual goal scorers.

Oliver Eastland, Anthony Davis, Benjamin Elliot and Max Minear were among the best for the Tigers who allowed South Fremantle to kick five last quarter goals and run away with the match.

Matthew Parker was the Bulldogs’ best, racking up 30 disposals and kicking a goal while Tom Blechynden, Chase Bourne, Zachary Strom and Jamaine Jones also played great games.

East Perth 10.9 (69) v Peel Thunder 6.5 (41)

The Royals retained third spot on the ladder with a convincing second half against the reigning premiers in Mandurah.

East Perth’s midfield of Tom North, Angus Scott, Liam Tedesco and Hamish Brayshaw led from the front, giving the visiting side 49 inside 50s, while Thoms Medhat and Sam van Dieman took advantage up forward, each kicking multiple goals.

Jonah Brooks laid 11 tackles and booted a goal from his 16 disposals in his best game yet as a league footballer.

The Thunder were lifted by big performances from AFL-listed players Jeremy Sharp, Hugh Davies, Josh Draper and James Aish, while Traye Bennell was also impressive.

Two of the best ruckmen in the competition in Liam Reidy and Scott Jones went head-to-head in a fascinating contest that ended with almost equal hit outs and a team clearance differential of just one.

Boorloo 8.8 (56) v East Fremantle 8.5 (53)

For the second week in a row the Sharks fell by less than a goal, and with three consecutive losses they have fallen to fifth on the table, though still with substantial distance to Peel Thunder in sixth.

Perth, renamed to Boorloo to celebrate NAIDOC week, were once again led by their two midfield stars in Brandon Parfitt (30 disposals, 12 tackles) and Charlie Constable (27 disposals), while Blake Schlensog won a career high 52 hit outs to go with 21 disposals, eight marks and seven tackles as he stuffed the stat sheet playing as the number one ruck.

Through 24 league appearances Daniel Hill had booted just a single goal, but the 21-year-old booted three in this contest, including the final goal of the game to tie things up.

Reuben McGuire booted two majors for East Fremantle and was one of his side’s best alongside Luke Strnadica, Tom Joyce, Milan Murdock and Jack Avery.

The game’s margin never exceeded 13 points, and Perth held on late despite multiple forays forward by east Fremantle in the final minutes in what ended as one of the games of the season.

West Coast 14.3 (87) v Subiaco 8.9 (57)

The Eagles won their second game of the season, using a six-goal opening term to get the jump on the Lions and they never looked back.

Boasting 17 AFL-Listed players, West Coast’s talent proved too much for Subiaco who dropped to 3-9 for the season.

Returning from injury it was Matt Owies who starred with four goals, while young midfielders Tom Gross and Campbell Chesser found plenty of the football.

Noah Long kicked three goals, while WAFL Eagle Josh Burke and Mid-Season draftee Jacob Newton each added two.

Ryan Borchet was the only multiple goalkicker for the Lions with four.

Lucca Grego and Tom Cole were also among the best for West Coast, while Taj Schofield, Daniel Gathercole, Patrick Mullane and Liam Hickmott gave everything for Subiaco.

Swan Districts 12.13 (85) V West Perth 11.8 (74)

Meeting for the first time since round one it was the Black Ducks who earned the four points on this occasion, tying West Perth with season wins in the process.

Swans had great performances from all their big names such as Jye Chalcraft, Jesse Turner, Aidan Clarke and Leigh Kohlmann, while Jehb O’Donohue, Seb Bright and Lewis Tester also impressed.

Brandon Erceg kept Tyler Keitel goalless while taking 11 marks himself in a brilliant defensive game.

West Perth got to within a goal in the last quarter, but an Aidan Clarke sealer shut the door on the Falcons.

Shane Nelson won 31 disposals, and Riley Sprigg played a fantastic game through the ruck winning 20 hit outs, taking five marks, laying eight tackles and kicking a goal.
