Western Australia is set to make two changes to the side for their final match at the Marsh AFL National Under-18 Boys Championships against Vic Metro at The Good Grocer Park.
After scoring an outstanding first up win over Vic Country, WA has fallen short against South Australia and the Allies.
State Talent Manager at WA Football Adam Jones is hopeful the group can finish the campaign on a high.
“The squad has played really well in two of the three games so we are pleased with how they are tracking, “ Jones said.
“It will be important for the boys finish of well this weekend against Vic Metro.”
Jones admits being beaten by South Australia, which claimed the Championship, was a reality check for some of the WA players.
“ I think the SA loss was a real eye opener for the team,” he said.
“It showed them that if they are off their best in a state game, the opposition will make you pay.
“But full credit to the group to show fantastic resilience and bounce back against the Allies.
“We were unlucky not to pinch the win but we were pleased with how the group played.”
With rain forecast , Jones expects the showdown against Vic Metro at East Fremantle’s home ground to be won by the team which is prepared to work harder.
“It looks like it will be really wet conditions on Sunday,” Jones said.
“In these types of games, the amount of talent you have in the team doesn’t matter as much.
“It’ll will be a game of who is willing to grind out a four quarter effort in tough conditions.
“We are confident the group will have a massive crack to finish off the carnival.”
Jones has been heartened by the performance of several players who don’t receive regular media attention.
“We have had a very even group of performers this campaign,” he said.
“Outside of the normal names that everyone hears about, on the weekend against the Allies we had a number of players have their best games, including, Jacob Farrow, Tom Phillips and Dale Sutherland.
“Ryda Luke also showed plenty in his first game of the Championships.”
