Corpus Christi College claims Jakovich Division of AFL Sportsready Cup Tuesday, August 6, 2013 - 2:46 PM

Warwick SHS and Corpus Christi College locked horns to decide the AFL SportsReady Cup- Jakovich Division.

In a hard fought game played in testing conditions, Corpus Christi broke away early to set up a handy lead at half time.

To Warwick’s credit they came back strongly in the second half kicking three quick goals in succession to close the gap to a couple of goals with five minutes to play.

In the end it was Corpus Christi College who steadied in the final minutes to run out winners by 18 points.

AFL SportsReady General Manager Colin West was on hand to present the AFL SportsReady Cup and medallions to the players, coaches and umpires.

Barry Barone (Corpus Christi) and Ryan Frawley (Warwick) were awarded the match balls post game as recognition for being their schools’ best players in the Grand Final.

West Australian Football Commission Schools Competitions Manager Clayton Anderson said the WAFC greatly appreciated the support received from all participating schools, AFL SportsReady and School Sport WA.

“I would also like to sincerely thank those teachers who gave up their time to coach a school football team in the competition.

"As part of the WAFC’s continued efforts to promote Schoolboys football, The AFL SportsReady Cup “Cable” Division Grand Final match was played as the post-match fixture to the West Coast v Gold Coast game on Saturday August 3^rd, with Clontarf Aboriginal College defending their crown against a very talented Governor Stirling SHS,” he said.
