WA Stumbles Against SA At National ChampionshipsMonday, June 30, 2025 - 11:55 AM

WA coach Beau McDonald has called for greater skill execution from his side after a 20-point defeat to South Australia at the 2025 Marsh AFL National Championships – U18 Girls at Revo Fitness Stadium yesterday.

WA led at quarter time but failed to take advantage of an inside 50 count of 17-4.

From that point the West Australians were outscored seven goals to three as the South Australians capitalized on missed opportunities from WA.

The home side won the inside 50 count 38-31 but it was WA’s lack off efficiency in attack which proved critical.

“I couldn’t be prouder of the way the players applied themselves and threw everything at the South Australians,” McDonald said.

“But moving forward we’ll have to improve aspects of our game, including our finishing in front of goals.”

Midfielders Carys D’Addario (21 disposals), Juliet Kelly 20 (disposals) and Renee Morgan (18 disposals) were key contributors for WA, while Maya Louvel-Finn and Ava Stewart were impressive in defence.

Alira Fotu, Mel Grage, Lucy Greenwood and Avuya Nomlatyu all scored goals for WA.

The West Australians are yet to win a match at the Championships and now prepare to face Vic Metro at East Fremantle’s home ground The Good Grocer Park at 9.30am on Sunday.

WA 1.2   3.2   4.4   4.6 (30)
