Peel win hat-trick of Great Southern Colts titles

Peel Football League made it a hat-trick of Great Southern Colts Carnival titles after an unbeaten weekend in Kulin.

Peel capped off an impressive two days by defeating Great Southern Storm by 35 points on Sunday – 7.8 (50) to 2.3 (15) – after booting four goals to none in the second half.

The Cavaliers booked their place in the decider with victories over Eastern Districts, Upper Great Southern and Goldfields on day one, while the Storm knocked off Ongerup, Lower South West and Esperance.

Peel talent Trent Robertson won the Clem Bray Trophy for best-afield in the grand final.

Eastern Districts won the third-placed play-off against Esperance, Goldfields and Lower South West played out a thrilling draw and Uppers beat Ongerup in their respective finals.

Goldfields young gun Tim George won the prestigious Harry Reeves Medal for the carnival’s fairest-and-best player, with Eastern Districts’ Zac Sprigg runner up.

Nine players from the grand final made the Great Southern 20 for Team of the Tournament, including five from the victorious Peel outfit.

These players from the carnival will form the Regional Districts team which will compete in Division Two of the CBH Group Colts Carnival at the Nutrien Ag Solutions Country Football Championships held in Perth and Peel next month.

There’s also a father-son connection with coach Troy Fullgrabe joining his son and ex-Subiaco player Kaidyn (Cunderdin) in the squad.

Familiar names in Avon’s Country Champs squad

Former St Kilda and Claremont player Tom Lee and triple Peel Thunder premiership star Blair Bell headline a strong Avon Football Association squad for next month’s Nutrien Ag Solutions Country Football Championships.

Lee has been playing for Quairading since he retired from the WAFL, while Bell recently made his debut for Cunderdin.

Former West Coast WAFL and Perth player John Levien (Federals), ex-Perth Demons forward Marshall Jones (York) and former Perth and Swan Districts veteran Matthew Rogers (Cunderdin) are among the other familiar names in the squad.

Avon are in the top grade of the Nutrien Ag Solutions Men’s divisions, running from July 11–13.

From Boyup Brook to the National U18 Champs

Boyup Brook one week, WA’s National Under-18s Championship campaign the next.

East Perth midfielder Luke Hallett made his return from concussion for Boyup Brook in the Lower South West Football League earlier in the month.

With the Royals and Hallett’s PSA school Aquinas College having a bye that weekend, Hallett went back to his hometown of Boyup Brook to play for the Roos.

The following week, Hallett booted two goals for WA’s under-18s in their loss to South Australia in Adelaide.

If he gets drafted, the big-bodied midfielder will become the first player from Boyup Brook – three hours south of Perth with a population of just under 1000 – to reach the AFL.
