WA Pushes SA in Opening Championship MatchTuesday, April 8, 2025 - 2:44 PM

WA has earned high praise following their opening match of the Marsh AFL National Development Championships – U16 Girls match against South Australia at Revo Fitness Stadium.

The West Australians were defeated 8.5 (53) to 6.4 (40) against a South Australian side which has yet to be beaten in the brief history of the Championships.

Ellie Lambkin, Talent Specialist – Female Programs at WA Football, was delighted with the effort of the side.

“It was great to see the team compete for a full four quarters and give themselves an opportunity to win the game during the last term,” Lambkin said.

“Every player had positive moments in the match and adapted to the level of National Championships well.

“The group will learn a lot from the game and look to improve working the ball out of defensive 50 and starting positions in different parts of the ground to increase our time with possession and forward half field position.”

Tiama Collard was a leading contributor for WA with 27 disposals, while Caitlin Boss kicked two goals in the 13 point result.

“The team will fly over to Brisbane on Friday morning and travel down to the Gold Coast upon arrival, “Lambkin said.

“The players and coaches will do final preparations on Saturday during a captains run.

“At the end of the training session the group have the opportunity to meet a Gold Coast AFLW player and receive a tour of the Gold Coast facilities.”

WA plays the Gold Coast Suns at 10am Perth time on Sunday at People First Stadium.
