The West Australian Football League will return to Moora for the first time since 1999 when the Perth Demons host West Perth at the local Recreation Sports Ground on August 10.
The Demons defeated Swan Districts in Moora in 1999 and will be looking to repeat that success in their country zone against the Falcons next Saturday.
The game promises to be a thriller, with the outcome crucial for both sides heading into the WAFL finals, particularly the Demons who are aiming to play in their first finals series since 1997.
The game is being played under the State Government’s Country Sport Enrichment Scheme, which commenced in 1999 in Moora and Exmouth as part of a disaster relief response to cyclone Elaine.
Around 1000 people were evacuated from Moora when the Moore River broke its banks.
WAFL Operations Manager Cameron Knapton said the League was delighted to be returning to Moora and thanked the State Government for its ongoing support of regional football.
“This game will be the 45th WAFL match played in a regional area with CSES funding,” he said.
“The WAFL is committed to taking games to regional areas as part of the CSES and thanks the State Government and Sports Minister Terry Waldron for their outstanding support. Playing these games simply wouldn’t be possible without them.
“Thanks must also go to the Moora community for their efforts in organising the game at a local level. Country football has a long and envious record as a breeding ground for top football talent and it is satisfying to reward this passion by taking WAFL contests to regional WA.”
The game kicks off at 2.05pm on Saturday August 10. Entry is $15 for adults, $12 concession, children under 16 free.
