IT WAS moving day on the WAFL ladder on Saturday in Round 18 action with Perth and East Perth moving up into third and fourth positions, and South Fremantle off the bottom while East Fremantle won to remain alive in the finals race.
South Fremantle upset West Perth 15.16 (106) to 9.13 (67) at Arena Joondalup, Perth thrashed Peel Thunder 18.15 (123) to 7.7 (49) at Mandurah's Bendigo Bank Stadium, East Fremantle downed Subiaco 15.13 (103) to 10.9 (69) at East Fremantle Oval and East Perth won against Swan Districts 14.11 (95) to 12.11 (83) at Leederville's Medibank Stadium.
East Perth returned to fourth position and knocked Swan Districts out of the four with a 12-point win on Saturday in a heated, spiteful and exciting game of WAFL football.
Josh Smith maintained his lead in the Bernie Naylor Medal race kicking five goals for East Perth with Paul Johnson outstanding in the ruck for the Royals with 29 disposals, eight marks, 34 hit outs and three goals.
Michael Swan also kicked two goals for East Perth with co-captain Brendan Lee picking up 33 possessions, Mathew Seal 22 and Freddie Clutterbuck 20.
Dayle Garlett booted five goals for Swan Districts with Wayde Twomey picking up 26 possessions while kicking two goals.
Charlie Cameron also kicked two majors with Ryan Davis collecting 22 disposals, Kyle Hams 21, Shaun Hildebrandt 21 and Brett Robinson 20.
South Fremantle climbed off the bottom of the ladder with an upset 39-point win over the second-placed West Perth at Arena Joondalup with the Bulldogs putting together just their second complete four-quarter performance of the season.
Mitch Banner continued his outstanding season for the Bulldogs since coming across from Port Adelaide and kicked a season-high five goals to go with 28 possessions. Veteran Kris Miller also booted three majors to go with his 25 disposals.
Full-forward Ben Saunders returned for the first time since fracturing his collarbone for a second time this season and despite the close attention of West Perth full-back Michael Pettigrew, kicked three goals in the second quarter from his four kicks for the afternoon.
Through the middle, Ashton Hams racked up 35 possessions, Ryan Cook 30, Haiden Schloithe 28, Tim Kelly 24, Toby Bairstow 23 and Jarrad Winter 22.
The South Fremantle back-line was outstanding with Nick Borovac keeping Anthony Tsalikis quiet while Adam Guglielmana racked up 25 possessions, Adam McIntosh 23, Borovac 20, Craig White 19 and Dylan Ross 16 with his eight marks.
Josh Mellington racked up 25 possessions and kicked two goals for West Perth with Marc Crisp also booting two despite being closely checked by Guglielmana.
The Falcons' key defenders Pettigrew and Dan Hunt did well on Saunders and Alistair Gillespie with Trent Manzone racking up 29 possessions, Jordan Jones 27, Steven Browne 26 and Andrew Strijk 24.
Through the middle, Shane Nelson finished with 30 possessions, Rohan Kerr 31, Aaron Black 22, Jay van Berlo 21 and Steve Potente 21.
Perth returned to third position on the ladder with a thumping 74-point win over Peel that sent the Thunder to the bottom of the table.
Demons skipper Paul Bevan kicked another five goals to take his season tally to 44 with Joel Leeson, Brennan Stack and Matthew Moody adding two apiece.
West Coast's Sam Butler racked 31 possessions for Perth with Chance Bateman also collecting 27 disposals, Leeson 26, Julian Jacobs 26, Jackson Sketcher 25, Michael Florio 24, Jarryd Morton 24 and Matt Tedesco 21.
Christian Eyres played one of his better games in the ruck as well with 19 possessions, six marks, 29 hit outs and five inside-50 entries.
Peel captain Brendon Jones did all that he possibly could finishing with 35 possessions, seven inside 50s and two goals.
Kelvin Lawrence also kicked two goals for the Thunder with Viv Michie collecting 31 disposals, Matt Orzel 29, Liam McKenna 28, Paul Bower 26, Alex Forster 22 and Marlon Motlop 21.
East Fremantle scored its third comfortable win over Subiaco this season with a 34-point win at East Fremantle Oval.
Ryan Lester-Smith booted four goals for East Fremantle with Brad Dick and Scott Hancock adding two apiece.
Daniel Kerr and Rory O'Brien both racked up 31 possessions for East Fremantle with Richard Hadley gathering 23, James Bayliss 20 and Rob Young 19 to go with his 11 hit outs and a goal.
Antoni Grover kicked four goals from five kicks for Subiaco with youngster Charles Le Fanu booting two majors.
Andrew McDougall was outstanding in the ruck for the Lions with 29 possessions, seven marks, 28 hit outs and six inside-50 entries with George Hampson picking up 34 disposals, Chris Phelan 33, Jarrod Kayler-Thomson 27, Rhett Kerr 23, Joel Ashman 22 and Aidan Parker 21.
