Junior Football Community Unites to Celebrate Season and Raise Over $36K for CharityFriday, October 18, 2024 - 11:56 AM

Over 1,000 volunteers and guests from Metro North, Metro Central, and Metro South Conferences came together for the first time to celebrate the 2024 Metro Junior Community Football Awards.

Volunteers and clubs who made outstanding contributions throughout the year were recognised during the event.

Highlights from the event included the recognition of Club Persons of the Year, departing Presidents, and acknowledgement of the many clubs who hosted the junior football competition finals.

Superkids Superheroes made a special appearance to present the Auskick Awards, adding excitement to the night. 

The event also supported a great cause, with the presentation of a $24,474 cheque from funds raised during the annual Sock it to Sarcoma! charity round. 

An additional $11,679 was raised for Sock it to Sarcoma! through an online raffle and silent auction held at the event.

West Australian Football Commission Club Development and Volunteer Specialist, Jenné Russell said the event brought together metro junior football clubs from Pinjarra in the south to Yanchep in the north, for the first time.

“Volunteers are the backbone of community football, and it is important to recognise their contributions to our great game - the Community Football Awards achieved this on an unprecedented scale,” Russell said. 

“I congratulate not only the award winners but all football club volunteers for their outstanding efforts in the 2024 season.”

On the night, individual volunteers and clubs from each district were awarded in the categories of male and female coach of the year, male and female community umpire engagement, Auskick coordinator and Auskick centre of the year, further with football award, administrator of the year, and volunteer and young volunteer of the year.

The awards concluded with the announcement of the coveted district junior and youth clubs of the year which recognised the outstanding efforts of top performing clubs in areas including administration, growth and retention, conduct and engagement.
