The WAFL Women's League is set to make a big leap forward with the introduction of a salary cap for the 2025 season.
This is the next significant step to growing our women’s competition, following the announcement last week that the competition will expand to nine clubs with the inclusion of Perth Football Club.
Following consultation with WAFL Clubs and approval from the West Australian Football Commission Board, a salary cap of $20,000 will be implemented for the 2025 season.
The salary cap will increase over the next three years to a minimum $25,000 in 2026 and $30,000 in 2027, with an annual review in place to ensure the cap continues to grow, rewarding the players for their dedication and commitment to the game.
Since the introduction of the WAFL Women’s competition in 2019 and following the 30-year legacy of the WA Women’s Football League, the competition has developed into a high standard of play. which has provided female players with a pathway from Auskick to elite football.
WAFC Executive Manager – Football Operations, Scott Baker said the introduction of a player payment model will ensure sustainability, equalisation and enhance the competition.
“Female players now have an enhanced pathway from Auskick to elite football,” Baker said.
“Just last week two-time Dhara Kerr Medallist Jayme Harken and Subiaco captain Tess Lyons were drafted to the West Coast Eagles for the AFLW’s upcoming season.
“The salary cap will assist to create a more even competition while financially rewarding players for their performance throughout the season.”
The 2025 WAFL Women’s season fixture will be released early next year.
