McGuire proud to reach century with SwansThursday, June 13, 2024 - 8:53 AM

Emily McGuire's return to Swan Districts in 2024 continues to gather steam with 10 goals in her past three WAFLW matches, all while having celebrated 100 senior games with the black-and-whites.

While McGuire has played in the AFLW at both Fremantle and the West Coast Eagles, it's always been Swan Districts that has been her football home.

That included winning the 2016 premiership where she kicked three goals against East Fremantle and claimed a second premiership the following year.

McGuire started her career as a forward before settling in as a defender until the end of 2022.

She took a complete break from football in 2023 but the longer the season went without her playing, the more she missed it and she committed to a return alongside good friend Brianna Hyde who also made her comeback.

McGuire has now settled back in attack for Swan Districts and with two rounds remaining she hopes she will be part of another finals campaign with the black-and-whites.

To have started her career as part of a successful Swans teams and now having been part of things since the formation of the WAFLW in 2019, McGuire is rightfully proud of her 100-game milestone.

"I'm extremely proud and honoured to have been able to play my 100th game in the black and white," she said.

"I have loved this club from day one. I’ve been having moments of reflection; it's been a tough but unforgettable journey.

"I'm loving being back, being with the group, playing footy and getting some wins on the board."

The win might not have quite gone the way of Swan Districts two weeks ago against the league-leading reigning premiers East Fremantle, but still Swans fought valiantly and for a lot of reasons it was a day McGuire will always remember.

Not only did McGuire celebrate her 100-game milestone, but it was on home turf at Steel Blue Oval and it was Reconciliation Round which means the world to her no matter what else is going on the same day.

"It's my all-time favourite round, getting to represent my culture on our home deck for my 100th game, it really can't get any better than that," McGuire said.
