New Holland Women’s WA Country Team NamedTuesday, June 11, 2024 - 12:37 PM

The return of the New Holland Women’s Country WA Team v the Perth Football League (PFL) Women’s team is set to showcase female talent on the big stage, when they play their first match in two years at Gil Fraser Reserve, North Fremantle, on Friday night.

The State Country squad consists of 24 players from the West Kimberley Football League (WKFL) in the north to the Great Southern Football League (GSFL) in the south.

The free event will see the two teams go head-to-head and feature former AFLW and WAFLW players.

Both sides each have a win, with Country winning the first game in 2021, before PFL claimed the honours in 2022.

There are a few challenges for the playing group to overcome, including the team coming together for the first time on Friday, ahead of Friday night’s game.

Kane Benson, Country Football WA Manager – North said this game provides the opportunity to showcase the skills of our players from as far away as Esperance to Broome, with one player travelling as far away as Halls Creek.

"The commitment to take time off work and away from families to play on the big stage with new teammates is something all the girls will remember for a long time," Benson said.

"All the selected players have expressed how honored they felt upon hearing about their selection, and we can't wait to bring them all together on Friday evening."

The all-female coaching staff includes head coach Rennie Meadmore and assistant coach Sheridan Kowald.

Captaining the side is Katie-Jayne Grieve (SWFL) with Jessica Giudice-Nairn (GNFL) named as vice-captain.
