Starkick - Design A Jumper CompetitionTuesday, May 21, 2024 - 12:51 PM

Students at La Salle College in Middle Swan are set to sport fresh football jumpers this season, thanks to the success of the inaugural Starkick - Design a Jumper competition.

Olivia Ricks, a Year 8 student at La Salle College, emerged victorious with her winning design, chosen from a pool of high-quality entries submitted by education support students from across the state.

The winning design was unveiled at a recent school assembly and reflects Olivia's thoughtful inspiration which was drawn from the school's picturesque location along the banks of the Derbyl Yerrigan.

Symbolizing unity and identity, the jumper features three meeting places on the back, representing the La Salle Football team, the Education Support Centre, and the Aboriginal Education Centre.

The front of the jumper further depicts the Aboriginal elders, and their integral role they play in shaping the students' education journey.

Chelsey Harding, from La Salle College, expressed enthusiasm for the new jumpers, noting that they will not only benefit the school’s education support students, there are also plans underway to acquire additional sets for the school's junior boys' team.

Chelsey went on to say  - “Olivia’s win saw an amazing sense of pride – for herself, her family and the College. In the process she has not only been able to explore her cultural heritage, but has also gained a new found passion for design.”
I would strongly encourage all Ed Support schools to give their students the opportunity to enter this competition”
Building on the success of the inaugural competition, the 2024 Starkick Design a Jumper competition is once again open to education support students statewide.

The school entry judged the best, will receive a full set of jumpers, produced by Burley-Sekem, long-time supporters of WA football.
