The West Australian Football Commission and West Coast Eagles have strengthened their school football alliance, with the club now partnering the Year 8/9 Schoolboys Cup program.
Formed in 1983, the Year 8/9 Schoolboys Cup caters specifically for lower secondary school boys. The competition is played right across WA with the aim of producing a champion school to represent each of the nine WAFL clubs.
WAFC Schools Competitions Manager Clayton Anderson said that approximately 6000 students will participate in the program in 2013, adding to the 35,000 participants already involved with West Coast Eagles school programs.
“The West Coast Eagles programs continue to increase in popularity and profile. Eagles Faction Football shows no signs of slowing down and the Eagles Cup has sustained its growth over the last five years,” Mr Anderson said.
“Now the Year 8/9 Schoolboys Cup program will further enhance this partnership.
“School football in Western Australia is very fortunate to have such high quality and passionate partners dedicated towards the ongoing growth of programs that significantly contribute to the physical, psychological and social well-being of school children.
“The WA Football Commission, West Coast Eagles and BHP Billiton are totally committed to these school programs. The partnership has always provided a clear direction for the provision of appropriate pathways for all boys and girls in safe, enjoyable and accountable environments,” he said.
