Round 11 WAFLW PreviewFriday, May 10, 2024 - 9:06 AM - by Chris Pike

THE WAFLW season resumes this weekend following the State game break with Claremont looking to hit back to hold on to top spot with the reigning premiers East Fremantle breathing down their necks on a five-game winning streak.

The run towards the WAFLW finals for 2024 heats up now that the State game break is out of the way and the Round 11 action is a crucial one in a lot of ways from the battle over top spot, to the rest of the clubs then fighting over positions in the top four.

Round 11 gets underway on Saturday at Sullivan Logistics Stadium with the sixth placed Subiaco hosting the fifth placed Swan Districts with both teams fighting over staying in the finals hunt.

Then also on Saturday afternoon, it's a rematch from the finals last year with Claremont at home to South Fremantle at Revo Fitness Stadium.

Both teams are coming off last up losses too before the State game with the Bulldogs' winning run coming to an end at the expense of East Perth.

They will be attempting to bounce back from that to hold onto a spot in the top four, but Claremont also suffered its first loss of the season to Swan Districts with coach Jack Schwarze looking forward to seeing his team's response.

"That's a game that when I watched the footage back there was heaps of learnings from it for us," Schwarze said.

"There's two ways that we can lose a game and that can be lack of energy, intent or desire, or we can do a couple of things and make some errors.

"It was the latter that was the case so there was a lot to learn and that's exciting to have that loss in an odd sense of the word because we can learn from it. I think we'll be better for it and we're excited to get back on the winner's board."

The round continues on Sunday with the on fire East Fremantle looking for a sixth straight win up against a West Perth also back to winning have won their last two matches to be in third spot.

Last up for Round 11 is East Perth taking on the winless Peel Thunder with the Royals hunting a third win of their second WAFLW season and to back up their last up win against South Fremantle.
