IT'S another fascinating round of WAFLW action this weekend finishing off with the undefeated Claremont against the winless Peel Thunder while Subiaco and South Fremantle also try to keep closing in on the top four.
Round 8 in the WAFLW gets underway on Saturday with East Perth hosting East Fremantle at Sullivan Logistics Stadium with the Royals fresh off their first ever win last week as they tackle the reigning premiers.
Next up on Saturday will be the fourth placed Swan Districts up against the third ranked West Perth at Steel Blue Oval before Saturday's action closes with Subiaco and South Fremantle doing battle at Sullivan Logistics Stadium with both teams trying to break into the top four.
The round then wraps up on Sunday afternoon at Revo Fitness Stadium with the 2022 premiers Claremont taking on the back-to-back premiers of 2020 and 2021, Peel Thunder.
But coming into this Round 8 match up and it's the Tigers clear on top of the table undefeated while the Thunder are anchored to the bottom without a win in 2024.
Emily Bonser will return to the Claremont team for Sunday's match up with Peel Thunder after her commitments with the WA 16s team who played in Adelaide last weekend.
The 2019 fairest and best winner and former AFLW player has been a more than handy addition to the Tigers in 2024, and she has enjoyed being back, and seeing just how far the WAFLW has improved after some time away from the game.
"We've got great depth across our Claremont side, but I think the depth across the whole WAFLW competition and the level of skill that is now around is something that's really stood out to me coming back this year," Bonser said.
"It's absolutely unreal to see it now and it's a faster and more exciting game to watch as spectators, and really it's anyone's game on any day as you can see by what happened with the weekend just gone.
"Claremont is top of the table, but Subi gave us a really good run for our money and no side is down and out including Peel who we now play this week.
"There's so much talent coming through with the young players as well so this week will be another tough challenge for us and we'll focus on playing consistent football, and sticking to our game plan no matter who is in the side."
