Whether you love playing sports or aspire to be the next Josh Kennedy or Nic Naitanui in the AFL, football is a safe and inclusive sport for children and is the game for all Western Australians.
New concussion guidelines have been implemented across the state, safeguarding every player. Under the new community football guidelines, a participant who suffers a concussion must remain on the sidelines for 21 days.
The West Australian Football Commission (WAFL) prioritises all participants' health, safety, and well-being by ensuring we stay at the forefront of education, research, and best practice in concussion management.
Through the WA Football Concussion Action Plan, the WAFC continues to educate and innovate from a game safety perspective.
In 2023, the WAFC piloted more than 180 instrumental mouthguards across various levels of football, collecting important data that examines the number of collisions and the intensity of each collision and will continue this into the 2024 season to gain further insights and ensure our participants play in the safest possible environment.
A range of non-contact football programs are available to cater to every individual who loves the game or wants to try it.
Auskick
Auskick is open to all children aged 5-8 and helps them get active, make new friends, and learn new skills in a fun environment. The fun doesn’t end with the kids; parents also have plenty of options to participate, and best of all, it’s a non-contact sport!
Superkick
Superkick is the next step in a participant’s football journey. It’s designed for children between the ages of 8-12 and focuses on skill development and fun games without tackling! Superkick is a non-contact sport where participants can still replicate their AFL heroes on the ground, kicking a goal, grabbing a mark or taking part in the ruck. Teams are organised with 5-9 participants per side, played during the week after school with no additional training required, and what’s even better is that your weekend remains free as games aren’t played on the weekend.
AFL Nines
AFL Nines is a social sport that is fast, free-flowing, and best of all, it’s ‘touch football’ with no tackling or bumping. This makes it suitable for boys, girls, and mixed teams of all ages. Even better, AFL Nines is played in teams of nine on smaller fields, meaning more fun!
