Round 6 WAFLW PreviewFriday, April 5, 2024 - 11:42 AM - by Chris Pike

THE WAFLW season resumes this weekend and it couldn’t be in more exciting fashion with a Friday night battle between the undefeated West Perth and Claremont at Joondalup's Pentanet Stadium.

Fresh off the WAFL season beginning last Thursday night under the new lights at Pentanet Stadium with West Perth beating Claremont in a heart stopper, the WAFLW will back that up this Friday night with the same two teams in action.

The Falcons play host the Tigers with both teams undefeated following the first four rounds of the WAFLW season for 2024 setting the stage for a tremendous contest that begins at Pentanet Stadium with the lights beaming at 8.05pm.

West Perth has shown improvement in each of its first two WAFLW seasons going from a winless start in 2022 to winning five games in 2023, and now the Falcons have opened 2024 on fire winning their opening four matches.

West Perth has beaten Peel Thunder, East Perth, Subiaco and South Fremantle so far with those wins against the Lions and Bulldogs the first time they've scored a victory against them in the WAFLW.

Now the Falcons attempt to beat Claremont for the first time on Friday night which would leave them clear on top of the ladder after six rounds as the last remaining unbeaten team.

However, the Tigers won't be handing them anything and they have also had a tremendous start to the season with victories against Swan Districts, South Fremantle, East Fremantle and East Perth.

Claremont is still yet to lose a home and away game in the WAFLW since the end of the 2022 season and with the motivation from losing last year's grand final, the Tigers will be out to make another statement against West Perth on Friday night.

Round 6 in the WAFLW then continues on Saturday at Fremantle Community Bank Oval with South Fremantle up against East Perth from 3.40pm.

It's back to Fremantle Community Bank Oval as well on Sunday with the reigning premiers East Fremantle playing host to Peel Thunder.

The last game of the round then takes place also on Sunday afternoon with Swan Districts playing host to Subiaco at Steel Blue Oval.

Both teams have started the season with two wins and two losses apiece meaning the winner will finish Round 6 sitting inside the top four setting the stage for another tantalising match up this weekend.

One young gun impressing for Swan Districts early in the season is 17-year-old Lily Paterson and she's looking to continue her development throughout 2024 while doing her best to help the black-and-whites win as much as possible.

"Definitely the coaching team has helped a lot as I didn’t really understand much to do with structure and all that, so they sat me down, talked me through it. Helped me develop as a player. Skill sessions, out at training as well," Paterson said.

"I definitely set goals in a game, then I set goals out of a game. Like in-game it’s more like disposals or decision making. Looking back making sure I made the right decisions, and then in training, putting the full 100 per cent into it."
