WEST Perth and Claremont kept their undefeated starts to the WAFLW season going with wins on Saturday while East Fremantle won a heart stopper over Swan Districts and Subiaco got back to winning.
A month into the WAFLW season for 2024 and the action has been fascinating with the Round 4 results leaving West Perth and Claremont as the two undefeated sides while East Perth and Peel Thunder are yet to taste a victory.
In between, East Fremantle now has three wins with Subiaco and Swan Districts having two apiece, and South Fremantle has one victory on the board.
The Round 4 WAFLW action got underway on Saturday with East Fremantle beating Swan Districts in a thriller 5.2 (32) to 4.7 (31) at Fremantle Community Bank Oval.
It was a dramatic finish with Tamzyn Beros earning a free-kick right on the 50m arc for a push in the back. The rest of the time then expired with an East Fremantle injury meaning Beros had to take her shot with Swans behind by a point from outside 50.
She did make good connection but it couldn’t quite score and the Sharks held on to win by that point.
Chloe Reilly and Serena Gibbs kicked two goals each for East Fremantle with Zippy Fish racking up 27 possessions, Chloe Wrigley 19 (10 tackles) and Ashleigh Gomes 19.
Swans' goals came from Taylah Edwards, Carys D'Addario, Brianna Hyde and Emily McGuire while D'Addario had 23 disposals, Lily Paterson 23 and Adi Griffith 17.
West Perth then kept its undefeated start to the season going and beat South Fremantle in the WAFLW for the first time in the process with the 9.8 (62) to 2.4 (16) win at Joondalup's Pentanet Stadium.
Taylor Ferguson, Elissa Price, Erin O'Brien and Megan Kauffman all kicked two goals for West Perth while Kauffman compiled 25 touches, Ferguson 22, Bianca Webb 20 and Mia Russo 17.
South Fremantle's goals were kicked by Pippa Sideris and Zoe Huggett with Caitlin Pears finishing with 21 possessions, Poppy Stockwell 19, Tahleah Mulder 19 and Ariana Hetherington 18.
East Perth continued its more competitive showings by pushing Claremont at Sullivan Logistics Stadium but it was the Tigers prevailing in the finish 7.8 (50) to 3.3 (21).
Anjelique Raison kicked three goals for Claremont with Taylah Orzel finishing with 22 possessions, Claudia Wright 20, Jayme Harken 17 and Jess Ritchie 13 to go with 24 hit outs and nine tackles.
East Perth's goals were kicked by Abbey Barber, Tristin Ogonoski and Lucy Greenwood while Taylah Suda had 16 disposals, Sabella Banks 15 and Jorja Elisseou 12.
Subiaco scored its second win of the WAFLW season and kept Peel Thunder winless with Sunday's 11.13 (79) to 2.0 (12) victory at Sullivan Logistics Stadium.
Hali Epis and Olivia Wolmarans kicked two goals each for the Lions while Leila Rowe picked up 20 touches, Krstel Petrevski 19, Maggie MacLachlan 17 and Eva Popovsky 16 to go with 11 tackles.
Jorja Haines kicked both goals for Peel while Evie Cowcher racked up 28 touches, Ebony Bilcich 24 and Ebony Dowson 18.
Meanwhile, Round 4 in the Rogers Cup got underway on Friday night with Claremont defeating Perth 8.8 (56) to 2.8 (20) at Mineral Resources Park.
There were two more games on Saturday with East Fremantle beating Swan Districts 6.9 (45) to 4.3 (27) and West Perth downed South Fremantle 9.4 (58) to 2.4 (16).
The round wrapped up on Sunday afternoon at Sullivan Logistics Stadium with Subiaco beating Peel Thunder 8.6 (54) to 5.2 (32).
