CLAREMONT and East Fremantle bounced back from disappointing losses last Sunday to down West Perth and Peel Thunder respectively on Saturday while Subiaco overran South Fremantle to record its third straight victory.
East Fremantle kicked eight goals to three after half-time to beat Peel Thunder 14.7 (91) to 8.8 (56) at East Fremantle Oval while Claremont kicked away in the first half and did enough to beat West Perth 18.11 (119) to 15.8 (98) at Arena Joondalup.
Subiaco kicked nine goals straight either side of three quarter-time to set up its 15.16 (106) to 7.11 (53) win over South Fremantle at Leederville's Medibank Stadium.
The Sharks needed to bounce back from a horror Foundation Derby loss to Peel that saw them also lose their place in the top-four, and after a tight battle for three quarters they kicked away for just their second win at home this season.
East Fremantle booted the only five goals of the last quarter to end up winning by 35 points and reclaim fourth spot on the ladder in the process.
Rob Young kicked three goals for the Sharks in his second game back from a knee injury he suffered in Round 1 with Ryan Lester-Smith also kicking another three.
Bradd Dalziell returned and racked up 36 possessions while kicking two goals with Rory O'Brien gathering 30 touches and kicking two goals also.
Captain Mark McGough also picked up 30 disposals, Sean Henson 22, Josh Simpson 21, Richard Hadley 21 and Brad Cooper 20.
Matt Taberner kicked three goals for Peel and Brad Holmes two with Viv Michie racking up 33 possessions, Paul Bower 29, Tom Sheridan 28, Brennan Gillam 25, Kristin Thornton 22 and Matt Brown 22.
Claremont jumped out of the blocks against West Perth kicking the first two and last three goals of the first quarter, and the last four of the second term to be up 41 points at half-time.
The Falcons did close to within 22 points during the third quarter but the Tigers steadied with four late goals to again be up by 40 points at the last change and to go on and win by 21.
Mark Seaby dominated the ruck after his West Perth opponent Chris Keunen was a late withdrawal leaving Frank Stockley to carry the load. Seaby finished with 17 possessions and 55 hit outs in an incredible display.
Chad Jones and Ian Richardson booted four goals each for the Tigers, Anton Hamp three, Paul Medhurst two and Jack Bradshaw two.
Patrick McGinnity gathered 30 possessions, Andrew Foster 33, Jake Murphy 25, captain Andrew Browne 25, Tom Taylor 25 in his best league game and debutant Ben Daniher 23.
Mark Hutchings returned to the West Perth line-up and racked up 32 possessions, laid seven tackles and kicked three goals.
Matt Guadagnin also did well finishing with 26 possessions and kicking two goals with Shane Nelson gathering 32 disposals, Jay van Berlo 24, Luke Tedesco 23 and Andrew Strijk 22. Anthony Tsalikis kicked three goals from six kicks.
Subiaco won its third straight game to improve to a 5-5 record to be just percentage outside of third spot on the ladder with a convincing 53-point win over South Fremantle in the end.
Subiaco led by two points at half-time, but South Fremantle had the more opportunities and couldn’t capitalise. That was magnified in the third quarter when the Bulldogs controlled the first 20 minutes but could not manage a single goal.
Subiaco then took advantage kicking two goals just before three quarter-time and then booted the first seven of the last quarter to break the back of a South Fremantle side whose season is now all but over with a 2-9 record with a bye next week.
Third-gamer Michael Wood kicked four goals for Subiaco with Jason Bristow, Brad Stevenson, Andrew McDougall and Mark Nicoski all adding two apiece.
Jarrod Kayler-Thomson racked up 35 possessions, George Hampson 27 and Brett Mahoney 26 while Joey Daye and Daniel Leishman were particularly prominent in defence.
Adam Guglielmana and Mitch Banner kicked two goals each for South Fremantle with Banner also collecting 23 disposals, Jacob Martinez 20, Sean Tighe 20 and Toby Bairstow 20.
Tighe worked hard despite a sore ankle with 24 hit outs as well while Martinez's defensive pressure was again terrific with nine tackles. Dylan Ross and Adam Carter were hard workers in the Bulldogs' back-line.
