THE BIG LOSERS

While Perth, Claremont and West Perth would have all been disappointed to lose on the weekend after being in winning positions at three quarter-time, the trio all still occupy the top-three spots on the ladder and at least played well for three quarters.

East Fremantle didn’t give a whimper, though, in its Foundation Derby against South Fremantle with the Sharks' unable to firstly cope with the Bulldogs' pressure all over the ground, or then stop their run and attacking game as they ended up losing by 67 points.

The Sharks lost their spot in the top-four in the process as well slipping to a 4-5 record.

THE SHINING LIGHTS

Swan Districts came from 15 points down midway through the last quarter to see former Demon Aaron Elari kick two goals in a minute, and then Dayle Garlett made the margin two points at the 26-minute mark and then Brett Robinson kicked the winning goal at the 29-minute mark.

Garlett was outstanding all day for Swans isolated in the forward 50 by coach Greg Harding and kicking six goals from 23 possessions and eight marks.

Robinson was also terrific all day in the midfield with 24 possessions, seven marks, five inside-50 entries and two goals.

Tom Roach worked tirelessly for 35 possessions with Wayde Twomey back in the team after a week in the reserves gathering 29 possessions largely off half-back while also working hard defensively laying four tackles.

Matt Riggio gathered 29 possessions, Elari 23, Shaun Hildebrandt 21, Ryan Davis 21 and Wes Lammie dominated the ruck with 18 disposals and 40 hit outs.

Matthew Rogers and Tony Notte also kicked two goals each for Swan Districts as did Elari and Robinson.

Perth captain Paul Bevan continued his remarkable season as a forward kicking seven goals from 22 possessions and nine marks. Brennan Stack and Simon Tunbridge kicked two goals apiece while Kyle Reimers worked hard in the forward-line as well with 19 possessions, eight marks and a goal.

Ashley Smith racked up a team-high 29 possessions for Perth with Dene White picking up 28 disposals, Jackson Sketcher 26, Matt Tedesco 24, Julian Jacobs 21, Brett Hodge 20 and Matt Moody 20.

It was a low-scoring and dour affair at Claremont Oval on Sunday, but in the end Subiaco scored the upset of the season to date kicking four goals to nil in the last quarter to win by 10 points.

Ray Daniels, Simon Moore, Brad McDonald, Mark Nicoski, Andrew McDougall, Clancy Wheeler, Brett Mahoney, Jarrod Kayler-Thomson and Rhys Waters all kicked a goal each for the Lions.

Paul Medhurst kicked three goals for Claremont and Ian Richardson two with Chad Jones and Tom Taylor the only other two goalkickers for the Tigers.

Captain Andrew Browne racked up 26 possessions for Claremont with Jake Murphy adding 20, Patrick McGinnity 20, Andrew Foster, 18, Aaron Holt 18, Jones 18 and Taylor 17.

Mark Seaby was terrific in the ruck with 23 possessions, six marks and 33 hit outs.

Alistair Gillespie had already put together up forward with three first half goals, but he carried the ruck throughout the second half in the absence of Sean Tighe for his best performance of the season for South Fremantle.

The former Claremont athletic big man finished with 27 possessions, five marks, five hit outs, five clearances, four entries inside-50 and the three goals.

Ashton Hams was outstanding both up forward and in stints on the ball with the dual-premiership star and West Coast-listed player finishing with 34 possessions, seven marks, seven clearances, six inside-50 entries and three goals.

Captain Ryan Cook ran hard all day to continue to lead the way for the Bulldogs whether on the wing or on the ball. He finished with 31 disposals, seven marks, five clearances, eight inside-50 entries, a goal and several direct assists for goals to teammates.

There were star performers everywhere you looked, though, and when it comes to pressure once again 20-year-old midfielder Jacob Martinez led the way with another nine tackles to go with his 23 possessions.

Alex Grima and Mitch Carter both earned a recall into the league side and made the most of it with Grima finishing with 24 possessions, five tackles, four clearances and a goal off the wing, and Carter 18 touches, six marks and six rebounds from defensive 50 off half-back.

The rest of South Fremantle's defence was rock solid as well with Justin Monaco playing his second straight Foundation Derby, and keeping returning East Fremantle big man Rob Young quiet. Last year, Monaco kicked five goals against South Fremantle.

Dylan Ross continued his outstanding form as a key defender with 22 possessions and 10 marks. Nick Borovac was also terrific keeping Ryan Lester-Smith goalless and sneaking forward to kick the first goal of his 30-game league career as well.

Toby Bairstow was another prolific ball winner picking up 30 possessions with Mitch Banner gathering another 23 to go with two goals.

Adam Guglielmana kicked three classy goals with John Sgherza and Paul Mugambwa adding two apiece to go with three majors from Hams and Gillespie.

Josh Simpson kicked two goals for East Fremantle with Rob Young also adding two in his first game since Round 1 when he injured his knee.

Rory O'Brien picked up 23 possessions for the Sharks to go with seven clearances while Richard Hadley had 19 touches and six clearances, and captain Mark McGough 19 touches, five clearances and a goal. 

Max Duffy came back into the side and worked hard with 18 possessions and a goal with James Depane also finishing with 17 disposals.

As well as Michael Swan's three goals from 18 possessions for the Royals, West Coast's Jamie Cripps was terrific with three goals from 21 touches including two of the last three goals of the match.

Dean Cadwallader provided terrific run for the Royals all afternoon finishing with 18 disposals, eight marks and three goals as well with Garry Moss kicking two goals, Josh Smith and Scott Lycett two. Moss did come off midway through the last quarter with a serious looking knee injury though.

Royals' co-captains Craig Wulff and Brendan Lee both led from the front with 27 and 25 possessions respectively while Aaron Sweet continued his standout season with a game-high 28 disposals.

Jarrad Oakley-Nicholls returned for his second game of the season to collect 24 touches for the Royals while Blayne Wilson was terrific in defence with 19 disposals and six marks.

West Perth led the entire match until East Perth hit the front when Wulff goaled at the 15-minute mark of the final quarter.

Young midfielder Shane Nelson was best afield up to that point with 27 possessions and six entries inside-50 before coming off with a sore ankle midway through the last quarter.

Jay van Berlo collected 24 disposals and took eight marks for the Falcons with Andrew Strijk finishing with 23 touches, Aaron Black 23 and Matt Guadagnin 22 in his 150th game for West Perth that saw him earn life membership for the club.

Disappointingly for Guadagnin, he has now played both his 100th and 150th games for the Falcons on Foundation (WA) Day and played in losses to East Perth on both occasions.

Tsalikis continued his terrific form up forward for West Perth with four goals from 19 possessions and seven marks. Jason Salecic, Matt Johnson and Nick Rodda all added two goals apiece.

PUSHING FOR A SPOT

Perth's reserves beat Swan Districts by 31 points on Saturday with Brad Fry and Mark Deaves kicking three goals each, and Joel Leeson two go with 22 possessions.

Michael Mather also had 23 touches for the Demons, Brant Colledge 22 and Kieran Hug 21 to go with an incredible 20 tackles a week after making his league debut against West Perth.

Aidan Anderson kicked two goals for Swan Districts with Jacob Burnham and Nathan Broad gathering 18 possessions each.

Subiaco's reserves recorded a strong 31-point win over Claremont as well at Claremont Oval on Sunday with Dylan Clarke and Kyle Halligan booting three goals each.

Will Fetherstonehaugh picked up 20 possessions, Michael Genovese 19, Matt Bogensperger 18 and Nick Hay 17.

Keegan Knott kicked two goals for Claremont with Ben Daniher and Brendon Lim gathering 18 disposals apiece.

East Fremantle's reserves scored a 17-point win over South Fremantle with Alex Howson booting five goals and Tyler Chalwell two. Jayden Schofield picked up 24 possessions, Jack Perham 20 and Brett Peake 14 and a goal.

South Fremantle's reserves might have gone down to East Fremantle by 17 points, but there were some strong performers with none better than premiership player Reece Adams who picked up 27 disposals, took six marks and kicked a goal.

Brendan Verrier also worked hard to finish with 27 possessions with Jarrod Parry picking up 21 while also laying seven tackles as he continues his impressive return from a horror run of two knee reconstructions.

Warrick Andreoli also gathered 19 possessions, Andrew Moody 17 and Sean Lynch 16.

West Perth's reserves beat East Perth by nine points on Monday with Matt Fowler kicking five goals for the second straight week with Drew Rohde adding two.

Kris Shannon racked up 26 possessions for the Falcons, Aidan Lynch 24, Brayden Antonio 23, Luke Meadows 22, Rohde 21, Mitch McPhee 20, Jack Thrum 20 and Michael Mascoulis 20.

Steven Wityk kicked three goals for East Perth with Tent Bradshaw adding two. Shaquille McKenzie picked up 26 possessions, Ryan Maldenis 25, Jackson Slater 20 and Mat Seal 20.
