Speedy small forward Mylee Leitch enters Monday’s AFLW Draft with some mixed-on field moments in 2023.

The East Fremantle livewire had a quiet start to the WAFLW season this year before injury forced her to miss WA’s opening game at the AFLW U18 National Championship match.

She returned to the WAFLW in Round 15 for the Sharks and produced her best game of the year during the last match of the home and away season against Peel Thunder, collecting 16 disposals and kicking two goals.

Leitch then played in East Fremantle’s Grand Final triumph over Claremont, booting an important goal from 6 possessions.

Turning 20 in January, Leitch can’t wait to find out her fate on Monday.

“I am both nervous and excited about Draft night,” she said. 

“This year has provided a few ups and downs, from breaking my wrist to winning a Grand Final with East Fremantle.

“Overall I think that my performances were pretty consistent, but I definitely have a few things to work on in the pre-season.  

“If given the opportunity I think that my ball skills and competitive nature will provide me with the chance to impact at the top level.”

Trent Cooper, Coaching Specialist – Female Talent Pathways at the West Australian Football Commission, has outlined the qualities the 160cm forward would bring to an AFLW list.

“Winning the National Combine agility test would have put Leitch on the radar of any AFLW scouts who hadn’t seen her play,” he said.

“Neat skills by hand and foot and her ability to hit the scoreboard would appeal to recruiters and she uses her speed to apply elite pressure when playing as a small forward.”
