CLAREMONT remained unbeaten, South Fremantle got its first win, Perth continued its charge to being a finals contender and East Perth squared its ledger in Round 9 WAFL action on Saturday.
The 2013 WAFL season resumed following the State game break that saw Western Australia beat Victoria by 17 points in Northam last Saturday, and there were four intriguing matches played across Perth.
The first grand final rematch of the season took place at Claremont Oval with Claremont beating East Fremantle 16.15 (111) to 9.15 (69).
South Fremantle downed Peel Thunder 14.15 (99) to 11.18 (84) at Fremantle Oval, Perth beat Subiaco 18.7 (115) to 13.12 (90) at Leederville's Medibank Stadium and East Perth downed Swan Districts 15.13 (103) to 11.17 (83) at Bassendean's Steel Blue Oval.Claremont continued its unbeaten start to the season thanks to a dominant eight goal to three second half against East Fremantle.
It was a see-saw opening quarter with the lead changing on 10 occasions, but the Tigers went into half-time nine points in front and kicked the first three goals of the second half and went on to lead by as much as 50 points in the final term before eventually winning by 42.
Andrew Foster continued his outstanding form in the middle for Claremont where he has been playing more than the usual half-forward role he's had for most of his time with the Tigers.
He picked up 31 possessions while Byron Schammer had 22 and Mark Seaby 17 to go with his 33 hit outs in the ruck.
Claremont's back-line was outstanding led by James Thomson while captain Andrew Browne racked up 27 disposals and Jesse Laurie 21.
Up forward, Anton Hamp and Mitch Andrews booted three goals each with Nick Winmar and Ian Richardson adding two.
Mitch Brown was outstanding for East Fremantle at full-back keeping Chad Jones scoreless and to one kick for the afternoon while through the middle, Bradd Dalziell had 31 disposals, Rory O'Brien 27 and Mark McGough 25.
Debutant James Depane was impressive with 22 possessions and two goals with Ryan Lester-Smith booting three first half goals.
South Fremantle finally recorded its first win of the season after seven straight losses with a hard fought 15-point win over Peel at Fremantle Oval.
The Bulldogs, boosted by the returns of Ben Saunders and Ashton Hams to the forward-line, came flying out of the blocks kicking the first three goals of the game and still led by 20 points at quarter-time, and 20 at half-time.
However, Peel completely dominated the third quarter but kicked itself out of taking the lead booting 2.9 to South Fremantle's three behinds for the term. The Bulldogs took the lifeline handed to them to kick four goals to two in the last quarter and record the win.
Hams and Saunders made a big impact as well with Hams finishing with four goals from 24 possessions and Saunders booted three goals from six kicks. Jarrad Winter also kicked two goals as did captain Ryan Cook to go with 27 possessions.
Sean Tighe dominated the ruck with 31 disposals and 33 hit outs while Kris Miller racked up 34 possessions, Mitch banner 27 and Toby Bairstow 26.

Perth improved its record on the season to 5-2 coming from behind to beat Subiaco by 25 points. Like they were against Peel a fortnight ago, Subiaco was quick out of the blocks but Perth quickly steadied and by half-time had assumed a one-point lead.
However, Subiaco was back in front at the last change before the Demons kicked the only five goals of the final quarter.
Brennan Stack booted six goals for Perth with captain Paul Bevan adding three, Daniel O'Sullivan two, Kyle Reimers two and Michael Florio two.
Brett Hodge racked up 33 possessions, Julian Jacobs 27, Matthew Moody 27, Dene White 26 and Matt Tedesco 23.
