Comet Bay College and Presbyterian Ladies’ College have enjoyed success at the sixth annual Freo Dockers Schoolgirls Cup.
The event is an interschool competition for girls in Year 8 and 9 and was staged at Legacy Park in Cockburn.
Regan Atkinson, Schools Specialist at the West Australian Football Commission, is proud that every year more schools across the districts and regions of WA express their interest in being involved in the competition.
“Both the participation and standard of this competition have grown rapidly since it was first introduced in 2017,” Atkinson said.
“Certainly as more and more girls continue to sign up to play football, whether its for their school or local community club, the standard of this competition continues to improve.”
Numbers for the Freo Dockers Schoolgirls Cup match the growing interest in female football.
“Across both the home and away and lightning carnival formats of the competition, we saw over 120 schools and more than 4,500 participants throughout metro and regional WA take part in 2023,” he said.
Atkinson says the event wouldn’t be possible without the support of the Cockburn based AFL club.
“I’d like to thank the Fremantle Football Club for their continued support of the Freo Dockers Schoolgirls Cup and look forward to continuing this partnership in the years to come.”
