OVER 10,000 people attended the three WAFL fixtures across Perth on Anzac Day with Perth, Swan Districts and East Fremantle all recording impressive victories.
The action on Anzac Day started with Perth beating East Perth 19.16 (130) to 11.13 (79) at Lathlain's Brownes Stadium in front of over 2500 people.
Then at Arena Joondalup, 2695 fans watched Swan Districts kick the last six goals of the game to beat West Perth 15.8 (98) to 9.16 (70).
The final fixture was the first Fremantle derby of 2013 and 5120 people attended Fremantle Oval to watch East Fremantle kick the last five goals of the game to beat South Fremantle 12.11 (83) to 7.12 (54).
Perth continued its outstanding start to the season beating East Perth by 51 points in the Demons' most emphatic performance of the season. They are unlucky not to be 5-0 but a 4-1 start to the season has Perth a genuine finals contender for the first time since 1997.
The game was tight over the first three quarters with Perth in front by just 12 points at three quarter-time, but the Demons then kicked seven goals to one in the last term for the big win.
Perth captain Paul Bevan was outstanding kicking four goals as did Simon Tunbridge with Fraser McInnes, Brennan Stack, Michael Florio, Dene White and Matthew Moody all adding two goals apiece.
Scott Lycett kicked three goals for East Perth with Arthur Bennell, Brock Higgins and Josh Smith adding two each. Brendan Lee had 37 possessions with West Coast pair Matt Rosa and Sharrod Wellingham gathering 29 and 28 apiece.
Swan Districts might have come into its clash with West Perth feeling hard done by having had to play in Mandurah on Sunday and back up with an Anzac Day clash on Thursday, but the black-and-whites showed no signs of fatigue kicking the game's last six goals.
West Perth led by eight points at the 10-minute mark of the final quarter, but then Swans piled on the last six goals to beat an inaccurate Falcons by 28 points.
Dayle Garlett was the undoubted star of the show for Swan Districts finishing with 29 possessions, 13 marks, five inside 50s and two goals.
Nathan Blakely, Tony Notte and Tim Geappen all added three goals for Swan Districts with Shaun Hildebrandt 26 disposals, Graham Jetta 26, Wayde Twomey 31, Brett Robinson 23 and Justin Simpson 23.
Josh Mellington kicked three goals for West Perth and Anthony Tsalikis two with Shane Nelson gathering 35 possessions, Jay van Berlo 30, Mark Hutchings 28 and Aaron Black 26.
After a tight first half that saw the Sharks go into half-time of the Fremantle derby nine points in front, South Fremantle came out and kicked the first two goals of the second half through Mitch Banner and John Sgherza to hit the front.
However, the Bulldogs didn’t kick another goal for the game with East Fremantle kicking the last five majors to run out 29-point winners.
The win improves East Fremantle to a 4-2 record ahead of a clash at home with the also 4-2 West Perth at East Fremantle Oval next Saturday while South Fremantle slips to 0-6 to continue the club's worst start to a season since losing the opening seven games in 1965.
East Fremantle captain Mark McGough led his team from the front with 28 possessions and five entries inside-50. He had strong support in the midfield with Rory O'Brien collecting 36 possessions, Cameron Sutcliffe 23 and Sean Henson sneaking forward to kick four goals.
The Sharks' defence was also outstanding and won plenty of the ball with James Bayliss gathering 31 disposals, Brad Cooper 25, Steven Dodd 23, Scott Jansen 20, Matthew Jupp 19 and Tom Howlett 13 while also keeping each of their opponents in check.
Only John Sgherza got away kicking four goals for South Fremantle with Mitch Banner outstanding with 34 possessions, eight tackles, five inside 50s and two goals. Ryan Cook had 29 touches, Kris Miller 26, Toby Bairstow 25 and Haiden Schloithe 21 for the Bulldogs.
Round 7 of the 2013 WAFL season will now conclude on Saturday with Peel Thunder hosting Claremont at Mandurah's Bendigo Bank Stadium.
