CLAREMONT kept winning with a victory over Subiaco in Broome in Round 12 of the WAFLW while South Fremantle further consolidated second position as Swan Districts and East Fremantle also held firm on their top four spots.
The top four teams in the WAFLW competition all did battle with bottom four teams in Round 12 of the season and those higher ranked sides all scored victories with the finals positions for the 2023 season taking some clearer shape as a result.
The lone game in Round 12 on Saturday took place in Broome and that saw Claremont remain undefeated this season by beating Subiaco 3.4 (22) to 1.1 (7).
The rest of the round took place on Sunday afternoon beginning with South Fremantle defeating Peel Thunder 12.10 (82) to 2.2 (14) at Fremantle Community Bank Oval to bounce back from last week's loss to Claremont.
East Fremantle also made it back-to-back wins to consolidate themselves back in the WAFLW top four by defeating West Perth 9.4 (58) to 3.2 (20) at Joondalup's Pentanet Stadium.
The round wrapped up on Sunday afternoon with Swan Districts making it seven consecutive wins to remain solid in third position by beating East Perth 9.8 (62) to 1.4 (10) at Steel Blue Oval.
In Round 12 of the Rogers Cup, the action got underway on Saturday morning at Revo Fitness Stadium with Claremont defeating Subiaco 8.5 (53) to 1.3 (9).
Jemimah Port and Jessica Rava kicked two goals each for Claremont while Subiaco's goal came from Ava Tavolaro.
The other three matches took place on Sunday with South Fremantle scoring a thumping 12.9 (81) to 1.5 (11) victory against Perth at Fremantle Community Bank Oval.
Rosie Anderson kicked four goals for the Bulldogs, Alira Fotu three and Nicole Taylor-Thorpe two. The goal for the Demons was kicked by Ella McKrill.
West Perth also defeated East Fremantle 4.8 (32) to 1.6 (12) at Pentanet Stadium in Joondalup. The goals for the Falcons were kicked by Mia Russo, Molly Conroy, Elli Van Den Broeke and Kyra Abbott. East Fremantle's goal was kicked by Taylah York.
The round wrapped up in the Rogers Cup with Swan Districts beating East Perth 6.4 (40) to 4.8 (32) at Steel Blue Oval.
Olivia Rasenberg kicked two goals for Swans with a goal each to Jorja Byrne, Vienna Marshall, Megan Carron and Jemma Sly. East Perth's goals were kicked by Lucy Greenwood, Ruby Burgess, Hannah Challender and Fatoumata Toure.
WAFLW PREMIERSHIP SEASON – ROUND 12
CLAREMONT 3.4 (22) defeated SUBIACO 1.1 (7)
Claremont and Subiaco took the WAFLW show to Broome on Saturday and while there were only four goals kicked for the day, three of those were by the Tigers who won by 15 points.
Customary hot conditions greeted the two teams for the match up on Saturday afternoon in Broome, and it was Claremont who continued its dominant season in 2023 as the reigning premiers.
The Tigers secured the 3.4 (22) to 1.1 (7) victory which further secures them in top position with 10 wins and a draw for the season so far. Subiaco remains in fifth position with the defeat with five wins, five losses and a draw.
Claremont's goals were kicked by Adele Arnup, Rachel Ortlepp and Ella Slocombe.
Matilda Sergeant kept her terrific form going in the midfield for the Tigers with another 22 touches, six marks and four entries inside the forward 50.
Jayme Harken collected 17 disposals, Kobi Nichols 17, Juliet Kelly 15, Claire Ortlepp 15, Slocombe 14 (eight tackles) and Andie Payne 13.
Subiaco's lone goal for the match in Broome on Saturday was kicked by Agnes Monisse to go with her five kicks and two inside-50 entries.
Subiaco captain Tarni Golisano ended up with another 18 possessions and seven tackles with Eva Popovsky gathering 15 touches, Olivia Crane 15, Meg Brown 13 and Madison Dodd 13 to go with seven tackles.
It took 13 minutes for the game's first goal in Broome and it came courtesy of the league-leading Claremont thanks to sharp shooter Adele Arnup.
Subiaco responded just before quarter-time with a goal as well to Agnes Monisse and that saw the Tigers just clinging to a one-point advantage at the first break.
The warm weather was proving a challenge for both teams the longer the game went in Broome and it was Claremont who kicked the long goal in the second quarter courtesy of Rachel Ortlepp.
That saw the Tigers leading by eight points at half-time and the lead remained that after a scoreless third quarter from both sides.
Claremont then kicked the only goal of the last term thanks to Ortlepp again as she continues to thrive in her move forward with the Tigers going on to win by 15 points and remain unbeaten in 2023.
SOUTH FREMANTLE 12.10 (82) defeated PEEL THUNDER 2.2 (14)
South Fremantle bounced back impressively from just their second loss of the WAFLW season with a dominant performance over two-time premiers Peel Thunder, winning at home by 68 points.
The Bulldogs were coming off their second loss of the season with both coming at the hands of the league-leading Claremont, but they were on a mission to make a statement at Fremantle Community Bank Oval on Sunday.
South Fremantle kicked seven goals to one in the first half and another five to one in the second on the way to the 12.10 (82) to 2.2 (14) victory against Peel.
The win improves the Bulldogs to an 8-2 record on the season with a draw to remain a game and-a-half clear in second position by the end of Round 12. Peel is now struggling at 2-9 in second last position.
Noa McNaughton, Trinity Brown, Pia Durk and Casey Byrne all kicked two goals apiece in the win for South Fremantle.
Bulldogs captain Lauren Vecchio put together a dominant performance in the midfield finishing with 29 possessions, seven tackles, three marks and three inside-50 entries.
Renee Morgan also collected 23 touches for South Fremantle, Molly O'Hehir 23, Kahra Sprlyan 22, McNaughton 19, Charli Wicksteed 19 and Bethany Bond 18.
It was another dominant showing in the ruck too from Ariana Hetherington who delivered 19 disposals, 19 hit outs, six marks, four tackles and three inside-50 entries.
Both Peel's goals were kicked by Kira Phillips from her four kicks and two marks for the day.
Evie Cowcher had an impressive outing for Peel in defence finishing with 30 possessions, 12 marks and four tackles.
Kaitlyn Srhoj also had 20 touches for the Thunder, Holly Britton 16, Dakota Sexton 13 and Abby Barnden 13 while Greta McKinley added 10 possessions and eight tackles.
South Fremantle was in unfamiliar territory trying to bounce back from a loss on Sunday and started in dominant fashion with the only four scores of the first quarter including goals to Pia Durk, Casey Byrne and Noa McNaughton.
South Fremantle also kicked the first two goals of the second quarter thanks to Trinity Brown and Byrne to open up a 32-point advantage before Peel got on the board with a goal to Kira Phillips.
The Bulldogs hit back to close the opening half with the last two goals as well from Leila Fotu and Zoe Huggett to be in control at half-time leading by 38 points.
The Thunder started the second half kicking their second goal of the game through Phillips once more, but the Thunder wouldn’t manage another the rest of the way.
South Fremantle kicked the last goal of the third quarter through Durk and then four more in the last term to ram home their dominance to end up winning by 68 points and further consolidate second spot on the WAFLW ladder.
WEST PERTH 3.2 (20) lost to EAST FREMANTLE 9.4 (58)
East Fremantle made a statement away from home on Sunday afternoon to beat West Perth by 38 points to secure themselves inside the WAFLW's top four.
With West Perth trying to stay in the finals hunt and East Fremantle trying to make it consecutive wins, it shaped as a fascinating contest on Sunday at Joondalup's Pentanet Stadium.
That's how it panned out but after quarter-time East Fremantle kicked five goals to just one from West Perth to secure the eventual 9.4 (58) to 3.2 (20) victory.
The win improves the Sharks to a 6-4 record on the season with a draw to be a game clear in fourth position by the end of Round 12. West Perth falls two and-a-half games now out of the top four with four wins and seven losses.
Chloe Reilly was instrumental in East Fremantle setting up a handy lead in the first half and finished up kicking four goals for the day from eight kicks and four marks.
Ashleigh Gomes led the charge again for the Sharks in the midfield with 20 possessions, five inside 50s and four marks while Beth Beckett gathered 16 touches, Zipporah Fish 14, Ashlee Atkins 12, Sharon Wong 11, Caylen Crook 11 and Georgia Bett 11.
Laura Catherine also finished with 10 possessions and 29 hit outs in the ruck.
West Perth's goals were kicked by Elissa Price, Karry Plummer and Liliana Grassenis.
Taylor Ferguson continued her good run of form for the Falcons with 21 possessions, eight marks and four tackles.
Kayla Van Den Heever also had 17 disposals for West Perth, Jess Roper 16, Brooke Hongell 14, Erin O'Brien 13, Natasha Spurr 12, Matilda Bain 11 and Emily Bennett 11.
With West Perth trying to stay in touch of the top four and East Fremantle attempting to stay there, Sunday's clash at Joondalup loomed as a fascinating one, and it was the Sharks who kicked the first goals thanks to Zipporah Fish.
West Perth answered soon after with a goal to Elissa Price but the Sharks pulled away with the next three majors all thanks to Chloe Reilly in the space of five minutes of individual brilliance.
West Perth did close the quarter with a goal to Karry Plummer to cut the East Fremantle lead to 12 points by quarter-time.
East Fremantle managed the only three scores of the second quarter and kicked the only goal courtesy of Reilly again. That gave her four goals in a stunning first half performance with the Sharks leading by 20 points at the main break.
The Sharks also kicked the only goal of the third term through Elsie Simpson and then East Fremantle confirmed the victory with three more goals to one in the final term to end up winning by 38 points.
SWAN DISTRICTS 9.8 (62) defeated EAST PERTH 1.4 (10)
Swan Districts continued its remarkable resurgence this WAFLW season by making it seven straight wins with a dominant 52-point victory on Sunday against East Perth.
Swans continued their stunning momentum this WAFLW season by kicking nine goals to one on Sunday at Steel Blue Oval on Sunday against the winless Royals to further consolidate themselves in third position.
Swan Districts won the game 9.8 (62) to 1.4 (10) to improve to a 7-4 record on the season to be half a game clear in third position on the WAFLW ladder by the end of Round 12.
East Perth has now lost all 11 of its matches in a first WAFLW season by an average of 63.5 points.
Taylah Edwards had a day out in front of goals for Swan Districts to kick a career-best five goals from her eight kicks and six tackles.
Cassie McWilliam also kicked two goals from 11 possessions and five marks for the black-and-whites.
Ruby Mahony continued her tremendous form in the midfield for Swan Districts with another 20 possessions and six tackles while Hope Ugle-Hayward delivered 16 disposals, four inside-50 entries and a goal.
Lily Paterson gathered 16 touches, Demi Liddle 15, Tyla Fitzgerald 14 and Naomi Baker 11. Lauren Quaife also had 18 hit outs in the ruck.
Emily Boothman kicked the lone goal of the day for East Perth in one of her two kicks in the game.
Madeleine Goodman collected 16 possessions for the Royals, Chloe Sauzier, Melisha Hardy 12, Julia Uhe 11, Tahlia Dawson-Gibbs 11 and Matilda Bennett nine to go with 30 hit outs in the ruck.
It did take almost seven minutes for the first goal of the game which was kicked by Taylah Edwards for Swan Districts.
From there, Swans added three more goals with another to Edwards and then two from Cassie McWilliam which saw their team leading by 26 points at quarter-time having held East Perth scoreless.
It took less than four minutes into the second term for Edwards to kick her third goal of the game for Swan Districts, but East Perth did answer back with what was their only goal of the contest thanks to Emily Boothman.
The Swans were leading by 28 points at half-time before they kicked the only goal of the third term with Edwards making it four for her for the afternoon.
Edwards then kicked a fifth to start the last quarter and Kayley King and Hope Ugle-Hayward closed out the game with goals too for Swan Districts to end up winning by 52 points to make it seven wins in succession.
