EXCITING Claremont forward Jack Buller is in the sights of AFL clubs ahead of his appearance for the Kia WAFL State team against South Australia in Adelaide on Friday.
Buller, who turned 22 on Tuesday, is regarded as a potential recruit at the upcoming mid-season AFL Draft.
But finding his way onto an AFL list isn’t on the radar of Buller as he prepares to face the Croweaters.
“There’s always a bit of noise going into this game, but my only focus playing good footy for the team and getting a win,” Buller said.
Representing the Kia State team in 2023 brings back memories for Buller.
“It’s such a great privilege to represent WA again because when I played my last game of State 18’s I thought that would be the last time I’d wear the Black Swan,” he said.
“So, it is fair to say I’m very excited about this week.”
The form of Buller made him an obvious choice for the Kia WAFL State side.
In four games for the Tigers this season, he’s kicked eight goals and averaged 16 disposals a game, with Buller’s athleticism helping him take 35 marks.
“I put in a lot of work in the pre-season, specifically my fitness and confidence in marking, which I think set me up to progress my game,” he said.
“I’ve identified I want to be stronger and more mobile, so working hard in the gym and watching my diet has been important as well.”
While a flag with the Tigers would complete his ultimate WAFL season, earning a place with the state side was one of Buller’s priorities.
“It was a goal of mine to make the squad, so to be selected is a great honour,” he said.
“The best part about the program so far has been interacting with my state teammates.
“A lot of these guys are respected figures in WA footy, so just having the chance to train and talk with them has been a great experience in itself.”
The KIA WA State side plays South Australia at the Adelaide Oval on Friday.
The match can be seen on the AFL App from 1.40pm (WA time).
