Score Big for Mental Health: WA Football Teams Gear Up for The Push-Up Challenge in JuneFriday, May 12, 2023 - 1:10 PM

Football team rivalry is about to run off-field, with The Push-Up Challenge set to take place in June.

The West Australian Football Commission (WAFC) has teamed up with The Push-Up Challenge to ‘push for better’ and raise awareness and funds to support mental health and football clubs across the state.

Players, coaches, members, fans, and volunteers are encouraged to get a team together and register their football club.

Michael Roberts, CEO of WAFC, said The Push-Up Challenge is a great way to get fit, have fun and have some chats about mental health.

"Mental health affects a large proportion of our community, including the football community, and it is really important that players, coaches, fans and volunteers can reach out to their teammates and clubs and ask for help,” Mr Roberts said.

“This is a great opportunity to challenge a rival club or keep it in-house and challenge other teams within the Club to see who can step up to meet the challenge of 3144 push-ups during the June campaign period.

“I’m looking forward to seeing players and coaches challenging each other, and I’m sure there will be a few one-handed pushups on show.”

Nick Hudson, CEO and Founder of The Push-Up Challenge, thanked the WAFC for supporting mental health awareness.

“Football in WA connects so many people, and I hope this challenge allows many West Australians to start talking about mental health, it affects so many families,” Mr Hudson said.

The Push-Up Challenge is Australia’s largest mental health and fitness initiative, with over 150,000 Australians taking part in 2022.

The Push-Up Challenge runs from 1-23 June. To register your club, visit the Push-Up Challenge website and get ready to push for better.
