THIS Saturday will see the now annual Colts Super Round take place with three consecutive matches taking place at Joondalup's Pentanet Stadium with the aim to increase recruiting opportunities for young players and promote the WAFL talent pathway.
Providing the chance for some of the best emerging talents in Western Australia to all play at the same venue on the same day, the Colts Super Round has become one of the highlights of any WAFL season and that will continue this Saturday in Round 3 of the 2023 season.
The Colts Super Round will take place on Saturday at Pentanet Stadium beginning at 10am with Subiaco taking on Claremont.
It will continue at 12.30pm with South Fremantle facing Peel Thunder before wrapping up at 3pm when it's Perth playing East Perth.
It's set to be an atmosphere like no other, with plenty happening on and off the field, so any supporters of the next generation of talent are encouraged to head down to Joondalup to catch the WAFL and AFL stars of tomorrow in action.
The Super Round concept has now been an initiative backed by WAFL football managers, player development officers and colts coaches since its introduction in 2011.
The great benefit of the Colts Super Round concept is that it allows AFL recruiters the opportunity to see all four Colts games on the same weekend with Swan Districts to play West Perth at Steel Blue Oval on Sunday.
As for the games themselves on Saturday, it begins with Subiaco facing Claremont with both teams combining to have won three of four matches between them to start the 2023 season.
Looking at last week, Subiaco scored a 51-point win against East Perth Lance Collard and Ben Steinmann kicking three goals each, and Oscar Dees racking up 28 possessions, Tyler Senge 18, Lachlan O'Keefe 18 and Ethan Barbieri 18.
Claremont is undefeated again this season and in last Saturday's 57-point victory at home to South Fremantle, Kai Dehavilland, Sam Van Rooyen, Rily Disisto and Ryley Valli all kicked two goals. Dehavilland also finished with 24 disposals, Ed Greenaway 20, Jett Sibosado 17 and Zane Zakostelsky 17 to go with 24 hit outs.
Next up on Saturday will be South Fremantle taking on Peel Thunder with both teams still attempting to win their first matches of the 2023 season.
The Bulldogs played their first game of the season last Saturday against Claremont with Jordan Douglas, Toby Verney, Riley Plunkett, Aidan Sheppard and Harry Elphick kicking a goal each. Meanwhile, Jacob Whan collected 25 disposals, Ed Graham 24 and Ashton Ferreira 17.
The Thunder went down to Perth last Saturday as well but that doesn't mean they don't have exciting talent too. In that game, Campbell Millar kicked their goal while Toby Jenkins compiled 20 touches, Jack Ilott 19 and Reece Torrent 18.
Last up on Saturday will be Perth facing East Perth with the Demons fresh off a win against Peel where Robert Warrell kicked three goals and Noah Cachard gathered 21 disposals, Aiden O'Driscoll 20, Elijah Scoble 20, Noah Murray 19, Cameron Hall 19 and Coen Livingstone 19 to go with 38 hit outs.
Meanwhile, the Royals lost to the Lions last Saturday but Will Cassidy, Sam Graham, Bienfat Kihusa and Adam Edwards kicked a goal with Cassidy amassing 18 possessions, Ben Thomas 17 and Jude Mazzucchelli 16.
